July has gone and this year we will remember it for the heat wave that hit a large part of Italy and, of course, my city.
Some random thoughts on July:
- Unfortunately the swallows that cheered up our squares with their screams have emigrated and we will have to wait until next April to see them again;
- With my wife we started going to the beach where our grandchildren join us every day. I'm trying to swim again but the prosthesis in my shoulder limits my movement a lot;
- I went to Rome, Pyramid zone, to pick up a pair of running shoes that my sons gave me for my birthday last year: yes, I was a bit late!!!
Running.
July 2023 - July was not a good month about running. For the strong heat and humidity I had to skip some workouts and I didn’t enter any race. I had also to reduce mileage and speed to not risk a collapse as it happened to other runners in this season.
These are the (poor) numbers:
Workouts: n° 13 - 124,3 km. (77,2 mg);
Races: 0
August is also expected to be a very hot month so my only goal is to run every other day for 10/11 km taking it easy. No races scheduled.
July in the past. Some memories:
July 1993: running with my son (then he was 14 years old) through Levico Terme where we spent 15 days at the Navy Club;
July 2008: bicycling to recover after the femur fracture;
July 2011: Orbetello night run. A classic run through Orbetello, a very beautiful town in Tuscany.

I can’t even imagine running in the heat and humidity you have been experiencing. I am quite sure it was a wise move to limit or suspend your activity. Stay well. All the best - David
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI learned too late to listen to my body. Now I am wiser than in the past when skipping a workout was a "tragedy" for me.
Nights are a bit cooler here. I wish you cooler weather soon! The beach is a great place to beat the heat, especially with grandchildren around!
ReplyDeleteSpending time with grandchildren is priceless!
DeleteVerrà settembre, Stefano, e allora correrai senza afa.
ReplyDeleteBuon agosto! 🌈🌻🌷🦋🍦🍓👋
Verrà settembre, ma ottobre sarà meglio!!!! Si riprenderà a gareggiare nei paesini della Tuscia che a me piacciono moltissimo (salite terribili a parte).
DeleteBuon agosto anche a te.
Great memories! I see that the temperature in Rome is around 30°C today. A bit more bearable but still very hot to run!
ReplyDeleteIt's Switzerland's national holiday today and it's raining buckets.
I cannot wait for a bit of rain here. What's better than a run under the rain?
DeleteWe have a sunny day today after a week of rain. We have been lucky not to experience the heat wave. Glad that you are doing your best to beat the heat. Stay cool and be safe.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, the heat wave is not a good experience: everything becomes difficult.
DeleteYou had a running journey that one can only admire.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm doing nothing of special. There are friends of mine who run more and more despite the heat.
DeleteNight time or early morning for running before it gets too hot.
ReplyDeleteLovely you and your wife and go to the beach daily with the grandchildren, they must love it.
Enjoyed reading after clicking on the links..
Take care and keep cool in August.
Better early morning because the streets and the roads are not crowded.
DeleteThe beach is a good solution in this season.
All the best.
Your experiences and adventures are captivating, and your writing style truly brings them to life. From your running and hiking escapades to the beautiful photographs that accompany your stories, it's evident that you have a deep appreciation for nature and a zest for life.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your kind words.
DeleteI cannot believe how hot it is this summer! We haven't been experiencing the heat as much as everyone else--in fact, our summer has been quite temperate. Running in the summer is always a challenge, that is for sure. Take it easy and enjoy those grandkids (and the beach!).
ReplyDeleteIndeed this is a very hot summer here and, as you say, I must take it easy. Better times (weather) will come.
DeleteCame across your interesting blog while surfing around ... Visited Rome for the first time in 2017, and had a wonderful time. Hope to see more of Italy in the hopefully not-too-distant future. It's hot here in TN (the U.S. south, near Atlanta) also, mid 90s since last week!
ReplyDeleteStay cool!
Thank you for visiting my blog.
DeleteGlad you like my country. I visited USA twice but, what a pity, not TN. Unfortunately I think I will not come back anymore because now my wife is afraid of flying.
All the best.
How lovely to see your grandchildren daily at the beach; and the beach seems like a great place to spend the hot days you've been having in Italy. Hopefully soon, it will cool down enough for you to return to running.
ReplyDeleteThat beach is perfect for the children but I prefer rock to sand because the water is deeper and cleaner.
DeleteUnfortunately it's hot again, this morning at 06:00 a.m. was hard to run.
Ten un genial mes y que te vaya bien en las carreras . Bellas la playa que has ido como las pirámides. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, that beach is perfect for my grandchildren, they enjoy to swim and play on the sand.
DeleteIt's good you are finding enjoyment in other ways when the heat limits what is safe to do. I hope the weather cooperates and you will get to run more throughout August! I know the less active we become, the harder it is to get back at the same level.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it's difficult to get back at the same level however getting older I stopped to do speed works.
DeleteHere it's hot again.
Very sensible - when we had our heatwave last year I either ran before 6am or didn't run. It's not worth the risk. Today, I started to go blue with cold, volunteering at parkrun - something is seriously wrong with the climate, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteThe same here, Friday and Saturday under strong rain and cold. Today hot again.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe beach looks beautiful, a fun place to spend time with your grandchildren. I hope the weather is better soon, so you can get back to your running and races. Take care, have a great day and a wonderful week.
Yes, it is, even if they want to stay in the water all time!
DeleteHave a wonderful week you too.
