Running update - The past 2 weeks have been very different. During the first week the humidity was at a minimum and the temperature cooler so I was able to train well, also increasing my speed.
Unfortunately the second was characterized by the return of the heat wave and humidity. It was very hard to run and I couldn't wait for coming back home to take a fresh shower and rest. This despite the start at 06:00 a.m. and a path with fountains to refresh myself during the workouts. I don’t understand why but …. 30 years ago I had no problem running in the heat.
Tuesday: 9.7 km.
Thursday: 12km.
Saturday: 10km.
Monday: 11.1 km.
Wednesday: 10.8 km.
Friday: 10 km.
Sunday: 13.2 km.
A breakfast with friends - In the morning I usually go, for a typically Italian breakfast (cappuccino and croissant), at a coffee bar located in the historic center and, precisely, next to the oldest squares of the city. This place, often, is the meeting point of a part of the Port community and, in particular, of those people who, like me, have worked many years in the port with different jobs. It's a chance to strengthen our old friendship and remember the good old days when we were young.

It was not a good week here either. temperatures over 40C. I never complain about the heat, but I do about the cold. Last week I really found it too hot to walk out of the door, the first time in my life I have ever had a heat rash and I lived in Africa for 50 years!! I think you did remarkably well under the circumstances.
ReplyDeleteA lovely set of photos. Keep running and now it is cooler so hopefully easier. Saluti, Diane
On the contrary I always complain about the heat and not for cold, but here the cold is not too cold.
DeleteSorry for the heat rash, I hope you feel better now.
Last news: I have just bought an interesting book: "Short story of Rhodesia".
Buona settimana!
Divertiti in bici!
But you still got a good amount of running done! Well done!
ReplyDeleteReconnecting with old friends and colleagues over coffee sounds great.
We have a similar tradition in Zurich, only here it's often over a glass of wine or beer in the evening. Morning coffee sounds healthier!
Also in the evening it is a good option. However I am teetotaler, so no wine or beer.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place to run!
ReplyDeleteIs the man giving you an award in the last photo someone we would have heard of?
That man was the President of the Port Authority.
DeleteWe had some terrible heat last week, but now we are having the most magnificent weather! Late summer is my favorite time of year and this is why.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love getting together for coffee with friends, especially after a run!
Glad you are having magnificent weather. Today we got a little of rain but it's always hot.
DeleteMy favorite time of year is fall.
ReplyDelete17 C° is a very good temp. Have a good week.
DeleteCoffee with friends is wonderful. As for the heat, I suspect two factors are at work here. It is hotter than it used to be and you are thirty years older! What a handsome young man you were in your uniform.
ReplyDeleteI miss the good times spent in the Coast Guard. However we, the old colleagues, are in touch again. Moreover I was member of the official Navy Running Team and I cannot forget that period and all the races all over Italy.
DeleteItalian breakfast is what I used to do on the daily basis until I cannot have any caffeine anymore. You looked like a star in youthhood.
ReplyDeleteSorry you cannot have caffeine. I also had that problem but luckily I succeeded in solving it. However I don't drink more than one "cappuccino" for day.
ReplyDeleteThank you. That Square is full of history since the Roman era.
DeleteLovely photos of all.
ReplyDeleteLooking very nice in all white each and everyone of you.
When we were younger we could do so many things we can't do now but you did well running.
Your breakfast sound rather nice, I made cappucino here at home but we haven't it anytime of day and I know that's not done in your country.
We have friends in for meals sometimes, sometimes we go out for lunch or dinner in the evening.
Here many people use to have coffee more than one time for day. I only drink cappuccino in the morning.
DeleteWe also sometimes go out for dinner in the evening but we prefer to go to the hilly town around here to taste the local food.
Love the old photos! Oh to be that age, with the life experiences acquired with age!
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to say the same. When she left she was only 70 y.o.
DeleteYou do run a lot - and you would´ve loved our way too cold summer...
ReplyDeleteWonderful pics! Of the place and "you guys".
Very, very late congrats on the award :-)
Thank you.
DeleteOh yes, I'd have preferred your summer!
Beautiful old photos. The old days are fun to revisit with old friends. 30 years is a long time but you are still running and doing the best you can. It's wonderful you can do that. Take care and have a great new week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words.
DeleteAnd every year, on Dec. 4th, we meet with the old colleagues of the Coast Guard to celebrate S.Barbara, the patroness of the Italian Navy.
I loved learning that you used to be in the coast guard. Catching up with old friends and colleagues in such a beautiful place also sounds so fun. It's so important to stay connected with our past!
ReplyDeleteI cannot forget the great time spent in the Coast Guard. A lot of good friends, many "adventures" and nice memories.
DeleteBoa tarde meu querido amigo.
Luiz Gomes.
You're welcome. It's a pleasure.
DeleteI absolutely enjoy catching up with friends over a cup of macchiato.
ReplyDeleteYou looked dashing in the uniform.
Happy Tuesday, Stefano!
Thank you.
DeleteHappy Tuesday to you too. All the best.
We are currently in the middle of a reprieve form the crazy heat wave of last week...but it's only temporary, LOL. The heat (and probably the humidity) is due for a relapse this coming weekend. Yes to coffee with friends!
ReplyDeleteThe same here, the heat will come the day after tomorrow.
DeleteI was much more tolerant of the heat when I was younger too. Now, I can’t stand it and wish for fall every year!
ReplyDeleteFall is also my favorite season. Heat is a problem for me.
DeleteThe heat really sucks the energy out of me, too. Here's hoping you have nicer weather returning soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a coffee drinker, but I do enjoy meeting friends for "coffee" because it's a nice way to catch up (I just drink water when we meet). I bet the croissant I get at the local bike shop isn't half as good as the ones you enjoy in Italy!
I also drink water when, sometimes, the meeting with friends is in the afternoon.
DeleteIndeed here the croissants (in Italian "cornetti") are very good.
I'll bet you enjoyed that break in the heat! We have a cool day today but the heat will be back for the weekend. How nice to have coffee with friends!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I did, but tomorrow the heat will be back.
Deletelove cappuccino and croissant....
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing photos and details....
That is the typical Italian breakfast.
DeleteThank you
yes, indeed....
DeleteThat is good you are able to get a run in every other day. They may not be how you want them to be but you are making the effort and finding a way to stay motivated!
ReplyDeleteWhere you go to meet your friends for coffee looks so pretty! In the summer I enjoy meeting friends for beers at outdoor patios. In the winter we meet inside somewhere for speciality coffees.
Those are great photos from your Coast Guard days!
Thank you.
DeleteNow my only goal is to keep on running and enjoy every workout.
In winter we meet inside too.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI hope the heat wave is gone now. It does seem it would be difficult to run on such a hot day. I agree with your grandson, looks like a lovely part of the city. The coffee and croissant sounds yummy. Great photos of your Coast Guard days. Take care, have a great weekend.
My grandson every morning asks: "Grandpa, at what time will we go to the ancient square"?
DeleteThe heat wave is gone but the cool is not here again".
You're running a lot Stefano! Well done in that heat and humidity, I saw how hot it was for the Budapest World Championships. It's starting to warm up here, perfect weather for running.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you have the perfect weather, so you can run better.
DeleteI'm not running a lot because, with the heat, I don't care about speed and distance.
