August 2023 – Despite many days of heat and humidity I managed to run every other day as planned but I preferred not to race. On the cooler days I increased my speed but then the heat returned and therefore the only goal remained to keep the single mileage around 10km.
These are the numbers:
Total monthly mileage: km. 169.2 (105.1 m);
Workouts: 16;
Races: 0.
August in the past (Memories) -Even in past years I preferred to avoid races in August and so there aren't many memories. Here are 2 of them:
2010 – Ladispoli – km. 6: looking at the photo you can imagine how hot was that morning;
2017 – Arlena di Castro – km. 8: 3 laps around and inside a beautiful ancient hamlet.

Weekly running update: The schedule of running every other day continues but now that the days are shorter I can start at 06:30 a.m. In preparation for the races I have started to include a weekly longer distance run.
Tuesday: km. 9.7;
Thursday: km. 10.7 (tempo-run);
Saturday: km. 15.2.
The first 10 km race is scheduled for sept. 24.
Signs of autumn: Fallen leaves, some swell and shorter days tell us that autumn is coming.

Is Autumn coming? Any race in your calendar?
How much time does it take you to run 10k? My son is timing himself and building strength. He did a much shorter distance on the treadmill, then multiplied to see how fast he could do a 10k. 😄 Not sure it works that way, but, hey, he's working on it. He's 16.
ReplyDeleteNow I am slow, mainly I run 10 K in about 1:03:00 during the workouts and 57:00 racing. My PB was 39:20 in 1992.
DeleteI am sure that he will be faster running on the streets.
Is he member of any running team?
He is not a member of a running team. He does Ninja Warrior and is trying to build up his strength.
DeleteThanks, btw! This gave him something to compare to.
DeleteIf you want to compare better his timing have a look to the results of the races near your home included the park runs https://www.parkrun.us/events/#geo=3.51/38.9/-96.41
DeleteThank you!
DeleteI'm surprise that there are races in Italy in August! It must have been brutally hot when you did them.
ReplyDeleteAutumn has arrived here in Switzerland. It's darker and colder in the mornings. Time to get out the thicker bed covers!
Here there are many races in august, mainly 10 km, but I prefer not to risk my health.
DeleteCannot wait to enjoy the real autumn weather!
Nice miles for August! Hopefully this will prepare you for your race later in the month.
ReplyDeleteWe are just starting to see early signs of autumn, but no fallen leaves yet.
My goal now is to finish the next race without feeling exhausted at the end.
DeleteI do not run or race but take my bike for a ride daily. 😉
ReplyDeleteBuona settimana!
E ti pare poco? Che c'è di meglio di una bella pedalata!
DeleteYou motivate me to get fit. The sceneries look energising.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you are already fit.
DeleteWalks daily on my agenda. Running not at all. Hope it gets cool enough for you!
ReplyDeleteThe daily walk is a good and healthy activity. Congrats!
DeleteMe gustan las foto de otoño. Te deseo un genial mes y una buena semana.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Have a good week.
DeleteWell at least you are being heat smart and not over doing it in the heat of August. The video tells me it was rather windy, but then it's often windy by the sea.
ReplyDeleteI learned too late to be a little smarter about running.
DeleteSuch strong wind is not usual here.
I am glad that you are able to run, and for the sheer pleasure too, rather than with the aim of winning a race. Cool weather will be a very welcome arrival for you - as it will for all of us, in fact.
ReplyDeleteIndeed I don't have any hope to win a race in my a.g.
DeleteDuring the last 2 races I finished shoulder to shoulder with an older runner; he told me that he is 83 y.o. and participated in the Rome Olympics Games in 1960.
Thanks for sharing your August race memories. Like you, I've run few races in August because it's quite hot here as well.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
It's not so bad not to race in summer, we have plenty of time later.....
DeleteHave a good week you too.
The cooler weather is always the best for runners. We had a couple of Ironman participants die last month due to a storm that made the sea very rough. The race should have been cancelled. Lots of people said it was real bad. Happy running and have a wonderful new month.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad news! However Ironman is a very very tough race!
DeleteHere many runners at the end of the races fall on the ground for the effort, for this reason I prefer to not race in July and August.
Have a good month you too.
It sounds like you are keeping your training going very well. 37C here today and I just want to stay inside in the cool of the house but I should be gardening!! Keep running, saluti Diane
ReplyDeleteVery hot there! it's hard to work in the garden with such heat!
DeleteHere 29C today.
All the best and ... saluti!!!!
Love the beautiful autumn views 👍👍
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the cooler weather, Stefano.
I cannot wait for the real autumn weather!
DeleteAll the best. Have a good week.
Great work on running and preparing for your autumn races! When I see leaves covering the ground like that, I always like to swoosh through them! In another couple of weeks, I should be able to do lots of swooshing! Enjoy these cooler days!
ReplyDeleteMy grandson loves to swoosh through the leaves too.
DeleteI remember when I was a kid (60 years ago) the road from home to school was full of fallen leaves and I did a lot of swooshing despite the screams of my grandfather,
Way Cool And The Sun Is Falling Back Down The Globe For Sure - But I Have Always Been A Fan Of The Winter Constellations - So I Got That Going For Me
ReplyDeleteCheers
I remember when I was a child my grandfather showed me the constellations and taught me their names.
DeleteThat´s a lot of running, considering your temps especially. Here suddenly summer arrived - we expect 29-32C! Crazy.
ReplyDeleteFall can wait...
Here the same temps: 29-32C but, at last, the days are shorter.
Deletewe have unbelievable temperatures during the summer months, could reach 40*C.....
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing photos and interesting video
You're welcome.
Delete40°C is too hot. It's difficult to make activities outdoor.
Amazing fallen leaves :D
ReplyDeleteHere the streets are full of fallen leaves on these days.
DeleteGosh, your leaves are falling already! Ours are hanging on but we're having a weird heatwave at the moment so there are misty mornings but then boiling hot runs!
ReplyDeleteHere we're having a heatwave too. Strange season....
DeleteBoa tarde de sexta-feira e bom final de semana meu querido amigo.
ReplyDeleteGrazie. Buon week end anche a te.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your race, I hope the weather is nice too.
The leaves are falling here too. But the weather is still warm.
I love the sounds of the waves in the video. Take care, enjoy your day and have a great new week!
Thank you. Here it's a little bit cooler but always warm.
DeleteHave a good week.
I loved seeing all of those Fall leaves. Fall is always the promise of cooler temps and more fun outside. I really do hope you will be able to do more races with the cooler upcoming weather!
ReplyDeleteFall is my favorite season. Now, even if it's warm again, going outside in the evening is a real pleasure.
DeleteAll the best as you increase your mileage in preparation for fall racing. It is definitely starting to look and feel like fall here and I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love fall too: the best period for running!
DeleteWe are anxiously awaiting the arrival of fall! Hope you have some cooler temps
ReplyDeleteTemps are a bit cooler but I worry for the next race because the start is at 10:00 a.m.
DeleteI think it's smart to adjust the outdoor exercise due to the weather. As we age the heat can be a real problem. You can only drink so much water. Glad to hear you're doing well. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYou are right, getting older the heat becomes a real problem.
temperatures have changed a lot in our area this weekend.... getting lower and comfortable......
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Glad that weather is improving there.
DeleteHave a good week.
