Running update - After 3 weeks of training I succeeded in recovering my pre-covid pace and the mileage. I run 10 km every other day with a weekly training session of 15km through undulate routes. In the meantime the cold weather has arrived and so my workouts begin after 09:30 am.
My secret dream is to run a 22,3 km (13,8 m) race in late January.
Next Sunday I will return to race on an undulating 10km route with a very challenging final climb.
In these last years I have chosen to race in the so-called Tuscia (Province of Viterbo) even if the running pack is not large and the routes very challenging. The reasons are various: very beautiful ancient hamlets generally from the Etruscan or medieval era where we can find restaurants with excellent local food, panoramic routes, easy parking, swag and age group prizes made up of local products (food and crafts), friendly atmosphere before, after and during the race. All very different from races in big cities where everything is more difficult due to the difficulty of finding parking, very large limited traffic zones, speed cameras everywhere and incredibly low speed limits even on easy roads.
Times are changing - The world is moving fast and the memories of our youth are disappearing. In my city all the old telephone booths were removed and almost all the mailboxes are now unusable.
Good bye Mamy - Sadly after 15 years this lovely kitten left us.
With the world moving fast and times changing, it is good to know of places like you talked about in the Province of Viterbo.
ReplyDeleteSo sad you had to say Good Bye to the lovely kitten!
Sending speedy wishes for your race next Sunday!
Thank you.
DeleteThose hamlets are perfect to relax: no noise from traffic, no confusion, no crowded streets, no pollution, little buildings, green country and not only......
So nice to hear you are back to running! That January race sounds interesting - I wonder why they didn't make it the length of a classic half-marathon?
ReplyDeleteSorry about Mamy! It always hurts to lose a pet, especially after 15 years.
It's impossible to make the length of a half marathon because the route of that race, called 3 Comuni, connect 3 different towns: Nepi, Civitacastellana and Castle S.Elia. It is a classic and participated event. Every town stands on a hill.
DeleteThat sounds amazing!!
DeletePoor kitty. You must miss her. Sorry for the loss.
ReplyDeleteYou have an ambitious goal but you can do it. The area sounds perfect too!
Thank you. We also adopted her 2 daughters. Sadly all of them are now in the cats' heaven.
DeleteYou are right, the area is perfect for a good race.
Times are indeed a-changing! There's an old pay phone at the trailhead where I do most of my training. It doesn't work, of course, but I am surprised that it is still there!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your cat. It's so hard to lose a beloved furry family member.
Good luck on Sunday! I look forward to hearing how you do!
I am very sad to see that many memories of our youth are disappearing because of the progress.
DeleteThank you for the kind words.
Your upcoming race sounds like you'll be running through some beautiful places. Phone booths are gone here and the few that are left were converted to a hub for wifi and charging points for your devices. Sorry to hear about your cat, they become famiy members who are loved and will be missed. Take care, have a wonderful week and good wishes for your run.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYou are right, the pets are part of the family and their loss is painful.
I once walked with soldiers - a 20km walk. Ingo needed to pee, there was a bench. I did not sit down because I thought after 18km, if I sit, I will never get up again! I wore normal clothes but soldiers saw I´m one of them, LOL! And you plan to run 22km?! My respect!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry for your loss.
Were you in the Army or it was a workout with the soldiers?
Delete20 km walk is a very good performance.
Long time that I don't run anymore for more than 20 km but, despite the age, I want to try again.
Your running regiment put me to shame. Poor kitty is gone too.
ReplyDeleteNo shame at all! But if you want you can become a runner and enjoy this activity.
DeleteI love that you were able to shift your races to more beautiful, less hectic locations. The atmosphere sounds a million times better than the larger events! Also, I am so sorry you had to say goodbye to your kitty.
ReplyDeleteRacing in these little towns means to finish in the last pack but it's a lot better than participating in the larger events.
DeleteYes, it was very sad.
So sorry about your cat, always heart breaking to lose a four legged member of the family.
ReplyDeleteDelight that you are back running again and back to normal fitness, keep warm.
Take care, Diane
Yes, it is a sad loss because the pets become part of the family.
DeleteI am running again but no more in early morning, I don't want to get sick.
So sorry about your cat.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing well with your running, good luck at the weekend.
Times sure are changing, we have still got a few mailboxes which is good and just a few phone boxes but certainly not as many as before.
Thank you.
DeleteHere no more phone boxes and few mailboxes. Good bye nice ancient memories.
That's great news that you're running again after your bout with Covid. I'm so sorry to hear about your cat...
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteUnfortunately in this corner of world covid rules again even if it is not anymore so dangerous.
It's wonderful to hear that you've come back to running.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much.
DeleteGoodluck on your running journey and i"m sorry to hear about your cat Mamy. I feel a sudden sadness when you mentioned that "the memories of our youth are disappearing"! Oh well, that's a life.

It is good to hear that you are back to running
ReplyDeleteThank you. Running, for me, is a real pleasure.
DeleteSo sorry about your cat, a good long life but still so upsetting. I hope your race goes well - or has gone well by now as I am so behind with my blog reading ...
ReplyDeleteYes, we are very sad. Now we have 3 lovely cats again.
DeleteI cannot complain about the race. I did what I can do at this age.
