Good bye Pirate - On Friday the local rugby community received sad news. Our friend Milvio, 85 y.o., also known as The Pirate, passed the ball, as we say when a rugby player passes away. He was the best hooker who has ever played in our team (The Saracens - 3rd series). I had the pleasure and the honor to play with him when I was young. I will never forget him and his teachings in sport and in life. We will miss you. R.I.P.
Below the photo of a reunion of old rugby players some years ago. The Pirate is the 3rd from left, I'm the 1st on the right:
Running update - This week I have run 4 times but on Monday and Wednesday it was not easy for the cold and the strong winds from north. I made my first 3 workouts with another runner:
Monday: km. 12,2;
Wednesday: km. 11,4;
Friday: km. 10,6;
Today: km. 10.
Week End at the lake of Bolsena: I just got home after almost 2 days spent by the lake of Bolsena. The weather was perfect: sunny and not cold. In this movie my wife feeds the ducks:
Capodimonte: see the moon in the afternoon |
Fish nets |
Promenade by the lake |
How did you spend the week end? Do you like to feed the birds?
I am sorry to hear this. My condolences.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Deleteoh how very sad about your friend. 85 years is a life well spent, i am sure he was very happy to be a part of this group of rugby guys!!
ReplyDeletei think you have done with your runs, considering the cold....the ducks look happy to be eating!!
The Pirate was a special person. He liked to have dinner with us and at the reunions he always was the "special guest". Rugby and soccer were his passion.
DeleteThe ducks are very friendly.
I know your friend will be missed there is always going to be his memory to keep....I can not run unless a bear is chasing me, maybe then I could do it..haha...keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteWe have many beautiful memories. The Pirate's jokes are famous: we laugh again thinking what he did and what he said.
DeleteI hope you never meet that bear!!!!
Sending Love And Light - Always Appreciate Your Photos
ReplyDeleteCheers
Thank you. All the best!
DeleteSo sorry for the loss of your friend. Beautiful photos, I enjoy seeing them. Good luck with the workouts.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteEven if he was older than me he has always been a very good friend, mate of thousand adventures during the tournaments and in the various reunions of old players.
A nice running week, despite the cold! Sorry about losing Milvio. He looks so happy in the photo with his friends around him.
ReplyDeleteDo you have special rugby rituals at the funeral? Why was he called the Pirata?
Your weekend at the Lake Bolsena looks so peaceful!
He was called the pirate because he had one eyelid lower than the other.
DeleteNo rituals but some players who "passed the ball" asked to receive the last farewell on the rugby ground.
My sincere condolences to you and all the team
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteSo sorry for the loss of your friend. xoxo A few days by the lake and beach sounds just perfect!
ReplyDeleteYes but we had to come back in the morning because of a black out.
DeleteHowever that place is perfect: nature, silence, good local food and no crowded.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your friend. I'm sure you have lots of good memories of him. Enjoy your time at the lake.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, we have lots of good memories: the Pirate's jokes are famous: we laugh again thinking what he did and what he said.
DeleteNow we are at home but very soon we will come back to the lake.
Oh, Stefano, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend! Sounds like he was quite a mentor and role model. On another note, I get a little creeped out feeding birds...I'm paranoid they're going to peck at me.
ReplyDeleteYou are right he was a mentor and a role model. He was also the trainer of my son when he played soccer as goalkeeper.
DeleteUsually the birds are friendly, rarely some geese were a bit aggressive but when they saw the food became "angels".
Siento mucho lo de tu amigo. Te mando un gran abrazo. Me alegra que sigas corriendo a pesar del clima. Que tierno video el delos patos. Te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteIn this period the ducks are hungrier than usual so we feed them.
Always sad when a legend goes. Or any person for that matter...
ReplyDeleteThose ducks sure enjoy the snack and sporty part :-)
Oh, I can´t wait till the trees wear "clothes" again.
Yes, it's very sad but we have good memories.
DeleteThe ducks are always hungry!
However, the bare trees have their own charm too.
You will remember your friend with great fondness for the rest of your life. We are fortunate to have had such friends. Cherish all those fond remembrances.
ReplyDeleteYou are right we are fortunate to have had such friends. How many adventures, how many laughs ......
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. I'm sure you and your friends are reminiscing about your good times together.
ReplyDeleteWe have ducks in the creek behind our house. It's fun to see their babies in the spring.
Thank you. Yes we have many good memories about the good times spent together especially during the away matches of the tournaments.
DeleteIt's too beautiful to see the babies following mom duck!
So sorry to hear the sad news, Black Knight.
ReplyDeleteLoving your beautiful photos as always.
Thank you.
DeleteGlad you like the photos.
How nice to get away and have good weather too.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the loss of your friend. Sounds like a great guy. And you have many memories.
Our ponds are frozen... not sure where the duck are.
Yes he was a great guy and a real friend.
DeleteI am sure that the ducks will come back!
sad to hear about your friend ....
ReplyDeleteI believe he will rest in peace....
# Thank you for sharing beautiful ohotos
You are welcome.
DeleteHe was a very good man, I am sure he rests in peace.
Great miles for you this week Stefano! I'm so sorry about your friend. Such a sad loss. All bodies of water here are frozen hard so the ducks do not stay.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that, for a reason or another, I don't succeed in doing the long distance runs.
DeleteYes, a sad loss, I knew him when I was 14 (51 years ago) and he was the uncle of a school mate of mine.
I'm sorry about your friend! I love his nickname (The Pirate.) Sounds like you have a lot of fond memories of him!
ReplyDeleteGreat running this week- you must be feeling good! Beautiful pictures of the lake! Glad you had some nice weather.
The Pirate because he had one eyelid lower than the other and another player said him: "You look like a pirate"!
DeleteNot that good because I feel pain on my foot but now I know the reason. I am wearing new shoes and these are tighter than the others I'm using, even if they are of the same brand, the same type and the same size.
I am sorry for the loss of your friend.
ReplyDeleteTime by a lake -- better yet sunny & not too cold -- that sounds divine! We are in the grips of a real cold snap. But like everything, this too shall pass (sometime).
I generally don't feed the birds, but I do like to watch & listen to them.
The weather was perfect for a week end by the lake but now it's rainy again.
DeleteHola, siento mucho lo de tu amigo, es triste perder a un amigo,yo alimentó a gatos, que no tienen donde comer.
ReplyDeleteUn buen lugar, el lago, para pasar el fin de semana.
Feliz día.
Saludos
Thank you, yes, it's very sad to lose such a dear friend.
DeleteWhat you do for cats is admirable. I am glad you love the animals.
Week ends by the lake are relaxing.
All the best.
My condolences for the loss of your friend.
ReplyDeleteYou had a pleasant few days. It is healthy and invigorating to spend some time away from home, particularly at this time.
Thank you.
DeleteSpending time in a relaxing place far from the noise and the confusion of the city is priceless.
So sorry for the loss of your friend, the Pirate. Love the ducks, they are enjoying the food. Beautiful views of the lake. Great photos and video. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThe ducks are always hungry. Everytime I go to the lake I feed them.
Have a great week end.
