Why Black Knight

The name Black Knight comes from this famous joke in roman slang. A man tells this story:
The Black Knight and the White Knight make a duel and the Black Knight kills the White Knight. Now the White Knight had 3 sons, they challenge the Black Knight to a duel and the Black Knight kills all of them. Now they had 3 sons each and the 9 White Knights challenge the Black Knight to a duel but the Black Knight kills of all them. Now they had 3 sons each and the 27 White Knights challenge the Black Knight to a duel but the Black Knight kills all of them.
Please stop the story, what do you mean, what is the moral?
The moral is: "Don't piss off the Black Knight"!!!!!!!!!

Listening to my body, Birds and the Dying Town

Running update – Listening to my body: I'm taking my runs easy because lately I felt some slight pain in both the big toe and the piriformis muscle. For this reason I couldn't increase neither the distance nor the speed. Indeed, listening to my body, after the workout on Thursday, I took 2 days off instead of one.

Maybe I have understood what the problem at the big toe is: I wore a new pair of running shoes: same brand, same model and same size but tighter. I didn’t notice this difference when I bought them.

Contrary to the recent past, I am no longer running alone but with a retired friend like me.

No races in person in the near future because Covid is everywhere here and I am waiting for the call for the booster. As 30 years ago (yes 30!!!) I had an anaphylactic shock due to an antibiotic, now I have also to wait for the call from the local hospital to get the 3rd shot in presence of an anesthetist!!!

This week I have run 3 times:

Tuesday: 10 km;

Thursday: 11,3 km;

Today: 11,3 km.

Birds: Here is a picture I took 2 days ago:

Civita di Bagnoregio: Now I show you another beautiful place not far from my hometown.  Civita di Bagnoregio is a hamlet inhabited by only 16 people that is possible to reach only by a pedestrian bridge. The reason for its isolation is the progressive erosion of the hill and the near valley. For this situation the hamlet is now called “The Dying Town”.

 HAVE A GOOD WEEK AHEAD

  1. I am sorry that you are having some aches and pains holding you back. I had some big toe issues a few years back (probably due to arthritis). My strength coach started me on the journey to get those glutes firing so I don't land on the toe. It worked remarkably well. Funny how everything is connected.

    1. Yes, everything is connected. Moreover I run through undulate paths and all those ups and downs make the situation worse.

That sounds like Heaven to me!

Glad you took some time off. My husband had a toe pain like that a while back. I turned out to be gout. Drinking black cherry juice cured it. Really!

    1. I hope that the problem is now totally solved. Maybe cherry juice is a natural anti-inflammatory.
I also like the atmosphere and the silence of the little towns in the country.

It's good to know that you will be looked after well for your booster, just incase.
Happy running even though you can't compete due to the virus.

  7. So nice that you can do your runs with a retired friend. You must have some good discussions during your runs.
I wonder if you can return the too tight running shoe - some vendors are quite good like that.
Those views of Bagnoregio are magical! This little place could feature in the next James Bond movie...

I cannot return the shoes because I bought them one years ago. When I find running shoes that I fit, immediately I buy another similar pair but, in that case, I didn't notice the difference.
Bagnoregio was the location for many movies.

  8. Problems with any part of the foot must be a huge issue for a runner. At least its related to the footwear and not to your anatomy, if that's any consolation. The pictures of the town reveal how lovely it is.

  12. Beautiful photos and views. The place that only allows access by a pedestrian bridge sounds great. Great news that you are running with another retired person, I always think that is safer than being alone. Take care, rest when you need too and have a wonderful week.

    1. Thank you. Now Civita di Bagnoregio is only a well organized touristic place. It deserves a visit and also a lunch where it's possible to eat local food.
You are right, running with another person is safer.

  13. Sorry about your injury, hope its only a temporary. It's very hard to find good fitting footwear. I recently changed to a better quality sock and it made a difference in how my show fits and feels. That Hilltop town is amazing!!

    1. Thank you.
You are right, the socks are very important too.
It's a long walk from parking to the top of the hill, but the town deserves it.

  14. I have also noticed that if I purchase the exact same shoe, there are often very noticeable differences. To remedy tight shoes, I recently purchased a pair of shoe stretchers on Amazon. The shoe stretchers have worked well for stretching out the toe box on new shoes... and avoiding a lot of the pain associated with breaking in a new pair of shoes.

    1. Thank you for the tip. Now I buy a pair of shoe stretches too.

  15. "Listen to your body" is one of the first things I tell my clients - it's so important! I hope your toe and piriformis are feeling better. How odd that the same pair of shoes, same size, etc. fit differently enough to cause pain.

I hope you hear from the hospital soon that they're ready to give you your Covid booster.

Thank you for sharing pictures and the story of Civita di Bagnoregio. I like that name far better than The Dying Town.

    1. However I always find difficult to "listen to my body". It's hard to stop the training but sometimes I must do it!
From the hospital I received good news. They will call at the end of this week to give me the booster few days later (I hope).
I agree, Civita di Bagnoregio is better than the Dying Town.

  16. You are wise to listen to your body and give it the rest (and respect) it needs. That's not an easy task for most runners! As always, thanks for sharing more beautiful pics! I love seeing all your local sights ;-)

  18. very smart to listen to your body and take it easy when something hurts. I'm not good with that. It's hard to differentiate between an ache or an injury. Hope your is short-lived.

I also hope that you can run live races soon. What a bummer!!

But keep sharing your beautiful photos.

  19. Oh that darn piraformis muscle is a literal pain in the butt! Doing some good glutes exercises helped mine a while back. Glad you have a friend to run with sometimes now, Makes all the difference. That is cute little town it is too bad that it is "dying" as you say.Listening to your body is not always easy but will turn out to benefit you. Stick with it!

    1. Thank you for the tip, I feel better thanks to the glutes exercises.
Probably the fact that Civita di Bagnoregio is a dying city increases tourism. However it is a wonderful town to visit.

  20. Wow- that "dying town" is fascinating! So 16 people live there? Sounds like a great place if you want to be secluded.
i hope your piriformis is feeling better. It does sound like the toe problem was the shoes. You ran three times this week so hopefully it's on the mend!

    1. Civita di Bagnoregio is beautiful but not the best place to be secluded because every day many tourists come to visit it and the town is always crowded.

  21. Oh, yes, that shoe-problem, I had the same, exactly. Weird!

Yes, side effects. Here, too, always.

Great birds-shot. And interesting town, if sad, too...

  23. I just returned some shoes for that exact problem. I had another pair exactly like them that fit so much better. It's weird. You are smart to rest and those niggles resolve themselves. Apparently we are past the peak of Omicron here. I hope you're able to get your booster soon.

    1. I learned the lesson, now I only buy the shoes in a shop bringing with me the old ones to compare them with those that I'm going to buy.
Here the peak has not gone and I hope to get the shot a.s.a.p.

  25. Good you realised about the shoes, but how annoying! I had a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics as a baby (50 years ago!) and they have kept me for 15 minutes each time I've had a vaccination or booster, and also when I had my flu jab at the pharmacy I had to walk round the shop for 15 minutes afterwards. I've been OK, thank goodness. At least my three covid jabs have been at the doctor's surgery.

    ReplyDelete

    1. So we had a similar experience with the antibiotics.
I got the first 2 covid shots at the doctor's surgery but for the 3rd I had to go to a vaccination center.

  26. Hello,
I am glad you gave yourself a rest. It is important for the shoes to fit well for walking, running and hiking. Love the shot of the gulls and the "Dying Town" looks like an interesting place to visit. The views are fabulous! I hope all goes well with your Booster shot. Take care, have a great weekend.

I hope you're able to get your booster shot soon!! I got mine back in November. My whole family got the booster shot, but just a few weeks ago my son and daughter got Covid. Nothing major but they felt pretty crummy for about 3 days. The rest of us here did not get it. I wonder how long before this goes away permanently (never?).
