Why Black Knight

The name Black Knight comes from this famous joke in roman slang. A man tells this story:
The Black Knight and the White Knight make a duel and the Black Knight kills the White Knight. Now the White Knight had 3 sons, they challenge the Black Knight to a duel and the Black Knight kills all of them. Now they had 3 sons each and the 9 White Knights challenge the Black Knight to a duel but the Black Knight kills of all them. Now they had 3 sons each and the 27 White Knights challenge the Black Knight to a duel but the Black Knight kills all of them.
Please stop the story, what do you mean, what is the moral?
The moral is: "Don't piss off the Black Knight"!!!!!!!!!

Winter has come

Running - I would like to make plans but it is impossible because, due to the covid, day after day the most interesting races are canceled or postponed.

At this point the only goal for 2022 is to keep on running every other day trying to increase the monthly mileage without going below 160 km (100 m).

In the meantime, winter has come bringing cold and winds from north that make the workouts more difficult:

Lately I have also been running less alone and more in group.

This week I have run 3 times:

Tuesday: 10,8 km;

Thursday: 10 km (between a rainstorm and another);

Saturday: 11,5 km.

Here is a memory from a January of many years ago (1997):

from a local newspaper

Rome – On Wednesday I went with my wife to Rome to take the cat to the veterinary hospital because he is very sick. As the clinical examinations took a long time, we went for a walk in the central shopping streets. Unfortunately the cat will not recover, however we have brought him home again.

Spanish Steps
Square of Spain
Condotti Street

This morning I went for a walk through the city and I met this “firing squad”:

Have a good week ahead

  1. You know, in general I am not fond of cities and generally try to avoid them. Rome is one city, however, that I am quite sure I would enjoy, with history on every corner, and fine food too. I am sure I could find a quiet park with trees and birds as a respite from the crowds. I hope that both the weather and COVID permit you to continue running, even if the formal competitions have been closed. All the best from Canada. David

    1. Rome is a very beautiful city. There are many parks where you can find a lot of birds and other places no crowded where you can enjoy the landscape of Rome from above. But I'm sure you'd like more to visit the green (so called) Tuscia Region near the Capital.

  5. Sorry to hear about your cat. And races being cancelled. In the US, most have been happening just with restrictions. People seem to need to get out and race!! I think it's healthy mentally and physically to be with people. It seems you agree as you are running with others too. It sure helps make the run go by faster.

    1. We are very sad for the irreversible situation of our cat.
Here the runners want to race but at the moment it's impossible because of the restrictions for covid. I think we will come back to the virtual races for long time again.
Now I run more often with other friends, it helps to go faster and to improve the mileage.

  6. I'm so sorry that your cat is sick. Enjoy your snuggles with him while you can.

Hopefully, Covid numbers will start going down as this current surge passes and races will start up again for you. At least you are able to run with your friends at the moment.

Unfortunately here the covid numbers are not going down and the situation is difficult.
I agree, I am lucky because at the moment I can run solo or with my friends without any restriction.

  7. I'm so sorry about your cat, such a sad time. I hope you can have some precious days or weeks with him. I'm also sorry about the races, I'm glad I haven't signed up for anything and can just continue running in small groups at running club or on my own. Covid is circling here, so many people have it, and tests are so hard to get, it's a scary situation and I fear for my vulnerable friends.

I have learned the lesson and I don't sign up anymore for the races because I risk to see them cancelled.
Here the situation is scary too and many people have covid. I am afraid for my wife (elementary school teacher) and my grandsons who start the lessons tomorrow after the long Christmas break.

  8. Nice to read you have a group to run with too. Yes, all we can do is keep on running and keep our mileage up for when things normalize with races. Stay warm!

    1. Now I make the workouts with a group of retired man (like me) so we have plenty of time to decide at what time to run. However I am the only one who is member of a running team and participates in races.
Yes, I stay warm, in fact I run in the morning and not before than 09:30 a.m.

  10. Oh Stefano, I am so sorry about your cat. It is never easy to see a furry family member suffer.

Your goal of 100m per month sounds very reasonable. That is always a goal of mine, whether I share it or not. It's a lot easier to achieve if you have something to train for, tho!

You are right, it's easier to achieve more ambitious goals if we have something to train for. However I don't complain much because I am able to .... run.

  14. Such a bummer that races are being postponed/cancelled again! It's hard, especially when you're coming back from an injury and feel like racing again.

    1. After the workouts we go home for a hot shower, too cold in this period!
However now I cannot anymore go to restaurants, bar ecc because I didn't get the booster. The doctor said that I have to get it in hospital because 30 years ago (yes 30!!!!!) I had an anaphylactic shock due to an antibiotic and they don't want to risk. Now I have to wait for not less than 3 weeks!!!!
