Another stop - Unfortunately, the Montalto race was the last of 2021 because since last Tuesday I had to stop running due to catarrhal otitis and a severe sinusitis. Fortunately, this is not covid-19 (the swab gave a negative result). However, I have done other laboratory analysis whose results will be available on December 2nd. My running doctors told that probably this is a strong flu even though I got the related vaccine.
November memories – 15 years ago, November 2006 (I was 50 y.o.), I participated in 2 important races: on Nov. 12 “The national half marathon championship for port workers” in Civitavecchia and on Nov. 26 the Florence Marathon.
In the national championship I won my a.g. in 1:45:36 but, if I remember, we were only 4. I didn't worry about the pace, I ran in total relax because I was in “tapering mode” for the Marathon.
In Florence, with the final time of 3:46:32, I was 2689 out of 6971 overall and 272 out of 667 in my a.g.

Lunch on the hills - On Friday I went back to Tolfa with a friend for lunch. At the end of the meal we found ourselves totally immersed in the fog.
Lights in the night - These are 2 images of the historic center in the night. Soon the whole city will be decorated and illuminated by Christmas lights.
I am sorry to hear that you are sick and hope that a swift path to good health is on the way. Time to look back on previous glories. You have remarkable achievements in your life. Perhaps you are familiar with the renowned biologist Berndt Heinrich who came in first place in the Chicago Marathon in his forties. He wrote about it in a wonderful book called "Why We Run". Speedy recovery, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI didn't know the book called "Why We Run", it sounds very interesting. I started to run after reading "The Complete Book of Running" by J.F.Fixx and the italian magazine "Correre" (Running).
Sad to hear you are sick! Get well soon, best wished from here!
ReplyDeleteWow. Thursday I tried to run, oh forget about that! (I was late), I could never do that, my respect to you.
Yes, our city is in lights, too, although it´s not even December...
Thank you.
DeleteWhy can't you run? I am sure you can!
I think my city will be in lights by tomorrow evening.
I'm sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. I've been seeing a very similar type of illness in my patients and colleagues. It's not COVID and it's not influenza, so who knows? I hope by the time you read this, you are on the mend. I love your trip down memory lane.
ReplyDeleteThank you. My improvement is very very slow and the cure is with antibiotics. I'm waiting for the results of the analysis to know what I have.
DeleteOh no. Sorry to hear that. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I think I need some days again to get well.
DeleteOh dear, that doesn't sound good. Let's hope that the 2nd test is negative as well. Hope you get well soon, Stefano!
ReplyDeleteYou looked strong on that 40th kilometre in Firenze! A very good time, too!
I have to ask a question about ships, since you're an expert:
We live about a kilometre from a foghorn. Whenever there's fog, the horn goes on to warn the ships, it doesn't matter whether it's night or day.
Do ships really need an acoustic signal these days? Don't they have GPS and all the modern tecchie stuff to warn them from crashing into the harbour?
I thought about that yesterday but couldn't find an answer.
Thank you.

Perfect! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh no so sorry to read that you are not feeling well! Hope it passes quickly. Yes, things are just starting to look festive and light around here.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I hope too.
DeleteWhen I feel better we will also go to see the lights in Rome.
Hope you get better soon. I think it's tough to get older but we still can do wonderful things. Take care and good luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you. You are right, we still can do wonderful things but we must be cautious and not to be in hurry to recover.
DeleteI am sure you are wiser than me.
Sorry to hear you're unwell. I've just got over a horrendous cold, then have been laid low by the side effects of our Covid booster vaccines (both of us have felt unwell, but it's obviously worth having the vaccine still!). So hoping to run tomorrow if it doesn't snow any more!
ReplyDeleteMaybe we have had the same symptoms. I am glad you got over the cold.
DeleteAll the best tomorrow. Here it's rainy.
Esperó que estés bien y que solo sea un resfriado. Bellas imagenes y si ya en mi cuidad están poniendo las luces navideñas. Te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I am sick at home again but I feel better, thank you.
DeleteHave a good week ahead.
I do hope you soon feel much improved, not at all nice to feel unwell.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are nice, love the last one.
Thank you, I heal slowly .... my age fault?
DeleteThe last one is the pic of the most ancient alley of the city where important people lived in the past: poets, shipowners, ambassadors, writers, painters ecc.
Ugh, that sounds very uncomfortable! I hope you feel better soon and can get back to running!
ReplyDeleteI love the two races you're remembering from November 2006. What a great year for you!
We're starting to see lots of Christmas decorations and lights here, but it's probably not as pretty as where you are. Please share pictures when the lights are up!
Thank you. I think I have to rest all this week too.
DeleteOf course I will share the pictures of the lights in my city and in Rome.
everyone in this area seems to be decorating early, lots of pretty lights!! get well soon, it's such a pain not being well this time of year!!
ReplyDeleteI also hope to get well soon to enjoy this period when the lights that decorate streets and houses create a special and magical atmosphere.
DeleteNice hardware and awards! They make great keepsakes ;-) I hope you're feeling better soon! It's a tough time of year to be under the weather. Our downtown is pretty well decorated already, and a lot of the residential areas are slowly following suit.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, they make great keepsakes. Unfortunately, during the move house in the mid 90s, I lost all the big hardware and the awards from when I was a teen-ager.
DeleteSo sad to hear that you are sick. But glad that it's not COVID.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon and get back to racing in 2022.
Thank you. I think that I will get back to racing in February 2022.
DeleteThis morning my doctor told that I have to rest another week.
Loved the images of the historic city center. I am so sorry to read that you are not feeling well. Please take care and get better quickly!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Very soon the historic city center will be decorated by Christmas lights.
DeleteI believe you will be better soon....
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing beautiful images.
I hope too, but the doctor told that I don't have to be in hurry.
DeleteI see...
DeleteHave a wonderful day
Ugh I'm so sorry you are not feeling well. I wish you a speedy recovery. I'll bet your city is stunning at holiday time!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYes, in this period the city is full of lights also in the suburbs.
I'm so sorry that you're sick and had to miss your race. Here's hoping you feel better quickly and can get back to running soon. Thanks for the little walk down memory lane sharing results of two of your races.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The recovery time is longer than I expected, I have to rest another week.
DeleteSorry to hear you are sick!
ReplyDeleteGet well soon, Black Knight!
Thank you very much.
Deletewow nice place!Ilove that fountain It reminds me of the movie Anita Ekberg med Marcello Mastroianni i "La Dolce Vita"
ReplyDeleteyou are a good and fast runner!
Thank you.
DeleteFontana di Trevi in Rome, have you ever seen that fountain?
The local fountain is medieval.
About the good and fast runner .... I was, time flies....
Hello,

Yes, I am feeling better, thank you.
