Broken - After 2 weeks of absence I am back to “blogland”. Why this silence? On the morning of Dec. 19th I went out with a friend for a morning run and, after 9 km at normal pace, I decided to run other 3 km at race pace. Unfortunately, at the 11th km, I tripped over an uneven sidewalk and I fell breaking a rip, cracking my eyebrow and injuring my knee. I was taken by the ambulance to the emergency room where they kept me under observation for one day. At the moment the prognosis is 20 days, but my doctor has already said that they are not enough for healing.
At this point all programs related to running have been cancelled. It's a shame because I was increasing my mileage and the speed considerably.

Now, during this period of rest and recovery, as schools are closed for the Christmas holidays, I enjoy the company of my grandson. Cannot wait for spending my time with the other 3 grandsons. Here are 2 photos taken in Tarquinia:
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
That’s a nasty fall - and you are not a young man any more. Make sure you are fully recovered before you start running again and listen to your doctor. In the meantime, spending time with your grandchildren seems terrific. All the best for 2024 - David
ReplyDeleteI am not in hurry. As you suggest I will wait for the complete recover before coming back to run. For now only long walks.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your fall, I wish you a speedy recovery. Spending time with you family is a joy!
Happy New Year to you and your family, wishing you all the best in 2024!
Thank you. The time spent with the family is always the best.
DeleteHappy new year.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that!
ReplyDeleteYou won't be able to do that race you were training for. What a shame, but I'm glad to see that you are on the road to recovery.
Make 2024 a good one, Stefano!
I am recovering and I think I will come back to run slowly in 10 days. No races on my calendar at the moment.
DeleteIt takes time to heal. Be patient with your body. Take care!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I will take all the time my body needs before coming back to running.
DeleteBom dia.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHappy new year to you and family.
Grandchildren are a blessing! I don't have any yet, but I am practicing with my niece's children. 😄
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I am sorry to see the injury. Get well soon.
I love to spend my time with my 4 grandsons: time flies with them.
DeleteHappy New Year.
Caspita! Mi dispiace un sacco, Stefano! Ti auguro davvero buona e veloce guarigione.
Sorry about the misfortune. Breaking a rib is very painful, taking up to 3 months to heal completely. Please rest well and happy new year to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you. My doctor said that I need 1 months, however I will get a check next Monday. Keeping the fingers crossed.....
DeleteHappy New Year.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The time spent with my grandsons is priceless.
DeleteHappy New Year.
Oh Stefano, I am so sorry to hear this! I hope you heal quickly. Enjoy your grandchildren. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I think I need other 15 days before healing but I will take it easy.
DeleteHappy New Year.
Oh my goodness, so sorry you tripped and hurt yourself, rather painful I should imagine, especially the broken/cracked rib.
ReplyDeleteOur legs get tired sometimes..
Lovely photos and enjoy your time with your grandchildren, they are very precious human beings.
Happy New Year to you all.
It happened because I was at a crossroad so, to pay attention to the cars, I didn't check the sidewalk where I was running.
DeleteYes, I love to spend my time with the grandsons.
Please rest well. Success for your blog and happy New year ✅
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, I take my time without being in hurry,
DeleteHappy New Year.
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your fall Stefano. I wish you a speedy recovery. In the meantime, enjoy the company of your grandsons.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a bad experience. Now I need other 2 weeks of rest so I will have more time to spend with my grandsons.
DeleteI'm truly sorry to hear about your fall, Stefano.
ReplyDeleteSending you my best wishes for a quick and complete recovery.
Love the photos.
Meanwhile, enjoy your time with the grandkiddos.
Happy 2024!
Thank you. Here the roads and the sidewalks have many traps so it's possible to fall if we don't pay attention.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Happy New Year.
DeleteUGH, I am sorry to read that you fell and the injury looks awful! So no race for you at the end of January! I hope you make a quick recovery and can get back to building up your running kilometres and do a different race later on. Best wishes for 2024!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Of course no races in the near future. I don't have to be in hurry.
DeleteHappy New Year.
I am so sorry to hear about your fall. I pray you recover quickly and can get back into running. Have as much fun as possible hanging out with your amazing grandkids!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Even if slowly I'm healing with ... the help of my grandsons.
DeleteOh my goodness that you did not need. Your eyebrow will heal as will your rib, but the knee is not as easy for someone who enjoys running. Hopefully it is not something long term. I cycled a 80km race in South Africa with a broken rib, painful!!! but that would have been about 25 years ago. I did though break a rib again last year in the garden!! Please take care an look after yourself. Happy New Year and I wish you a healthy and fit 2024. Diane
ReplyDelete80 km with a broken rib was a real adventure: you are a great athlete!
DeleteI hope you had a complete recovery after the incident in the garden.
Happy new year to you and family.
Oh, Stefano, I am so sorry to hear about your fall and serious injury. I hope you continue to heal and can get back to running soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm healing but I have to wait for another couple of weeks before coming back to running.
DeleteGod bless you
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteGreat blog and beautiful pic. Success for your blog. Happy New year
ReplyDeleteThank you. Happy New Year.
Thank you.
DeleteHappy New Year.
Ouch, so sorry to hear about the fall when things were going so well for you. Good luck with healing and don't over do when you get back into it. Enjoy your time with your grandsons.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I'm so sorry to hear this! I cracked two ribs in 2017 falling over a dog while running. Good advice I was given was to take a few deep breaths every hour, even though it hurts, to make sure your lung doesn't get congested and infected. I wish you a good recovery.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Stephano! Per usual, I am rarely on blogland so sorry I have been out of touch. I'm sorry to hear you fell but I read your later posts and glad to hear you are recovering. Take it easy so you're ready to go full speed ahead soon! Wishing you the absolute best 2024!!
