Race - Tarquinia 10 km of the Sea: On Sunday I ran the "10 km of the Sea", a round trip race on a totally flat route, from Tarquinia Lido to the protected natural area of Saline.
Flat routes are not my favorite, I prefer races with uphills and downhills because they allow changes of pace and make me more competitive against those who don't practice running as their main sport.
Departure at 10:00 a.m. under a bright sun, a very competitive pack and the lack, by my precise choice, of speedworks (I want to avoid injuries due to overexertion) saw me running the entire race in the last pack with a regular pace.
Stats:
10 km in 58:27 (5:50/km – 9:24/m);
204 of 226 overall;
13 of 14 age group (65/69 y.o.).
The swag included a technical shirt and a jar of honey.

Have a good week
Look like a pretty course to run on. You have some fast runners in your age group! Nice job out there it sounds like fun
ReplyDeleteThe first in my a.g. ran the 10 km. in 42:00.
DeleteThe course was beautiful, near the sea and inside the natural reserve but .... I didn't have the time to enjoy the landscape....
Extraordinary architecture. I wonder how many people throughout the ages have stopped there for lunch.
ReplyDeleteTuscania is a beautiful ancient town surrounded by woods and with etruscan and medieval heritage. The food is special!!!!
DeleteCredit to your running journey that motivates me to get fit. The ancient and old ruins are so beautiful in your travel.
ReplyDeleteAll the towns around there have beautiful old buildings, ruins and museums.
DeleteCongrats on your race! Looks like a speedy crowd, but what a beautiful course. I have to say that i've never gotten honey as race swag!!
ReplyDeleteIn the province of Viterbo (the so called Tuscia region) the races are not crowded because very tough and the competition of the races in Rome is very strong.
DeleteDifficult to see 200 participants all together but this was a flat route.
Here we always get food as swag and prize.
A race and family time. Sounds perfect! Well done!
ReplyDeleteIndeed a very special sunday. The next with my son's family will be soon in Tuscany,
DeleteMe alegra que te haya ido bien en la carrera. Es una linda ciudad. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you. For sure that town deserves a visit.
DeleteWell done on your race! It's not easy to run a flat course without speedwork but you held up a consistent pace. Great job!
ReplyDeleteWas it very hot?
Thank you, indeed it was a failure even if I don't complain because my only goal, now, is to enjoy the race atmosphere until I can.
DeleteNot really hot but very very warm.
Congrats on your race!
ReplyDeleteTuscania looks ancient and beautiful.
Your grandsons are adorable.
Blessings, Stefano
Thank you. Tuscania and the other ancient towns in the Province of Viterbo are all beautiful.
DeleteAnd my mom was born there, in Tarquinia.
You did well with the race you ran in.
ReplyDeleteThe ancient town there looks wonderful and your grandchildren are looking good as well...trust you all have a good picnic.
Thank you.
DeleteThe lunch was great! Pasta (lombrichelli) with truffles was delicious and ... not only pasta but also mixed bruschetta with local vegetables and the dessert!!!
Handsome grandsons you have there. I wonder if they will be runners too. You are credit to us all!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteUnfortunately they love football as most of italian people. I don't, I like rugby.
Well done, your training paid off! I would be curious to see placings if the route had hills.
ReplyDeleteIf the route had hills, as in nearby towns, the runners would be 100/120.
DeleteNice place for a run! Wonder if you have tried to run the Boston Marathon?
ReplyDeleteI live in Italy and Boston is very far from here. However I am old now so I cannot run anymore long distances like the marathon.
DeleteBoa quarta-feira e com muita paz e saúde. As fotos ficaram maravilhosas, meu amigo querido.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Have a good week.
DeleteWell done! The area looks beautiful and very old. Glad you got to enjoy the company of you grandsons. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteMy grandsons liked the day in Tarquinia and Tuscania. They told that cannot wait for another "excursion".
DeleteWell done, I agree no injuries is the most important, and it sounds like you enjoyed the race which to me comes first on the list. I will find time to blog again one day!! Cheers Diane
ReplyDeletePlease come back soon to Blogland. Your posts are always very interesting.
DeleteCongrats on the run, even if it's flat. The important thing is you did it, and didn't get hurt. That's a big win in my opinion. What a fantastic place for lunch with family afterwards. Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Now the most important thing for me is: to participate.
DeleteIn Tuscania there are many little restaurants with good local food.
Respect, you don´t even look exhausted!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful architecture, too.
Thank you.
DeleteIndeed I had to slow down a little before the last km.
Well done, and lovely pictures, too. How lovely to get a jar of honey in your goody bag! Mind you, tomorrow there's a run in Bournville where you get a lot of Cadbury's chocolate in the goody bag ...
ReplyDeleteInteresting goody bag!
DeleteI prefer to race in the little towns for many reasons and one of them is the goody bag with local food.
Waving hi, as I make my blog rounds and hope you're doing well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the visit. Everything ok.
DeleteHave a good week.
great family, and congratulation for race.... good luck.
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing beautiful photos and details.
Thank you.
DeleteGlad you like this corner of Italy.
Bom dia de domingo e um excelente mês de outubro, com muita paz e saúde meu querido amigo.
ReplyDeleteA great combo or running and family time. Always love your Italy pics
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Delete.... and other pics will come soon.
Tuscania looks so amazing, what a fabulous place to enjoy lunch. That is so fun you were able to also spend time with your two grandsons after the race. My husbands middle name is actually Leonard!
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that we have something in common: Leonard(o).
