Why Black Knight

The name Black Knight comes from this famous joke in roman slang. A man tells this story:
The Black Knight and the White Knight make a duel and the Black Knight kills the White Knight. Now the White Knight had 3 sons, they challenge the Black Knight to a duel and the Black Knight kills all of them. Now they had 3 sons each and the 9 White Knights challenge the Black Knight to a duel but the Black Knight kills of all them. Now they had 3 sons each and the 27 White Knights challenge the Black Knight to a duel but the Black Knight kills all of them.
Please stop the story, what do you mean, what is the moral?
The moral is: "Don't piss off the Black Knight"!!!!!!!!!

Running again

Running again. After 2 weeks of stop due to a strong flu, the doctor finally authorized me to training again. Unfortunately, this return to running coincided with a strong wave of bad weather: rainstorms (see the movie below) and, in the next days, a strong cold. The right time to feed the birds.

However, I have always found, in late morning, a moment of pause in the rain to be able to run. The recovery was gradual:

Tuesday: 6 km;

Thursday: 8 km;

Saturday 10 km.

It's cold!!!!
It's cold!!!!!

Feeding the birds

Holidays: The Christmas atmosphere has now invaded the city. Lights everywhere, shepherds playing traditional instruments in the main streets and mothers busy in cooking traditional biscuits:

Ancient memories: In my city, during the Christmas period, until the mid-90s, “La Saracena”, a very tough classic race of 14.4 km, was held.

Here is a photo from 1986, we were only 86 at the start and, as you can see, we also ran in the traffic. Time flies and now, where on the right there was the wall with the railway underneath, there is a mega-parking.

When did you participate in your first race? On which distance?

  1. I'm very glad you're running again! You've really had a string of bad luck- hopefully that's over and you can have some smooth sailing for a while. Your city looks beautiful with all the lights! (Somehow I missed last week's post and went back to look at those pictures as well.) I like the musicians playing in the streets. Today I'll be one of the mothers baking cookies!
I'm trying to remember my very first race, and I can't! i must have been around 19 though, and it was probably a 5k. You're lucky you have that picture from 1986- if I had some pictures it would probably jog my memory.
Hope you have a week of good health and running!

    1. The music played on the streets by the shepherds is typical in Italy. We call it "Pastorella" (pastore = shepherd).
About the photo: at that time my photographer was my father.

  3. I'm so glad you're getting back to running! Since I'm doing the same thing, I know how good it feels. Love all the Christmas lights.

I don't remember my very first race since it was over 30 years ago, lol! It was probably a 5k somewhere in Chicago. Racing was so different back then. No chip timing and I don't remember any photographers on the course.

    1. The only problem for me is that I cannot do cross training to recover from injures/illness.
Very different times when we started to race. Here few participants and what about the outfits in cotton?

  4. My first race was a Flora Women's 5km in about 2001, I think after I'd met my husband, not sure if I did any before that. Lovely mass participation events - to get people running, I think. I recall I only trained on a treadmill for it!

And glad to hear you're back to running. I ran twice last week and three times last week, still feel really unfit, as I had the cold after two weeks back running after my fall, so it's been really patchy. I hope you feel fitter and stronger than I do!

    1. I see we have had similar unliky adventures: fall and cold.
I hope you will be able to recover completely soon.
I can tell that at the moment I feel good.
About your 5 km: I think it was not so funny to prepare a race on the treadmill.

  5. Glad to hear you got some running in between the raining. The spider web is incredible to see. My first race probably occurred when I was 16. It was a cross country race for my high school.

I have a spider at home and we don't disturb him. By now he is not afraid of us.

I made many times the mistake not to take it slow. Now the lack of interesting races helps me to be more prudent.

  7. Glad you're back in the running shoes! Gosh, I think my first race was when I was in college, but I had no clue how to take it seriously. I barely made it one mile before needing (desperately) to walk because I had not trained at all.

    1. Yes, but you did it and that was a nice experience.
If I remember I ran my first race, 1 mile, when I was at the Junior High School (I was 13 y.o.) and I finished 6th out of more or less 100 kids: at that time I thought it was a disappointing result.....now I would be the happier man on the earth!!!!

  8. It's great to hear that you've recovered from the flu and are running again!

If you discount running high school track (I ran 400, 800, and 4 x 400 relay), I ran my first road race, an 8K, in July 1980.

School apart I ran my first road race, a 7.8 km, in september 1985: only 29 participants!!!

  9. You've made a nice comeback to running! Glad to hear you are feeling better. That kind of rain is no fun to run in. I ran my first race, a 5k, in 1999.

I don't mind to run under the rain but it has to be light and in a not very cold day.
I know that you are an experienced runner!

  11. YAY! Back to running again! What a nice comeback.

That's quite a bit of rain you got. I bet the farmers are happy about it. How does the birdfeeder work? Are there holes at the bottom of the bottle?

I don't remember my first race. I do remember my first marathon in 2003, it was a disaster, haha!

    1. You are right, this is good weather for the farmers.
Of course at the bottom of the bottle there is a large opening in which the birds can also enter.
A marathon is never a disaster. Running 42,2 km is always an act of heroism!

    2. Haha, that's a good way of looking at it! It's true, finishing a marathon is always a victory.

My wife is planning with our children the Christmas Eve dinner and I think that this will be the menu: appetizer, baked pasta stuffed with cheese, roast veal, baked potatoes and panettone.
      Have a good week.
