My son Paolo also raced although, during the last week, he run only once covering 8 km.

I had also problems for a bad cold that affected my workouts. However, even if I had trained regularly, things would not have turned out differently because I didn't feel weaker or slower than usual.
With the pace of 5: 56/ km (9:33 m) I was able to establish my pw all time and on every distance. But I'm not complaining and I'm happy because I couldn't have done better than this at the moment.
With my son we ran shoulder to shoulder for 10 km when I tried to increase the speed to overcome a runner of my same a.g..
We reached the finish line with only one minute gap.
If Paolo could train regularly he would be able to run very fast!
Stats:
Finishing time: 11 km in 1:05:20 (5:56/km – 9:33/m);
258th place (out of 280) overall;
9th place (out of 10) in my age group.
A glorious (???) failure!

Congratulations, you did well!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes well, but only why I crossed another finish line and my son was with me.
DeleteCongrats Brother Night - And Dig That Castle - Stay Strong
ReplyDeleteCheers
Thank you. Next time, if it's not raining, I will visit that castle.
DeleteHey hey hey---don't sell yourself out here! Crossing the finish line is always winning. It's been a tough year for a lot of us and you showed up! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI agree, crossing the finish line is always a success! It was my goal but I was baffled after seeing the final ranking.
DeleteStill, though, you did it. I think that's a win.
ReplyDeleteThank you. You are right, reaching the finish line is always a win.
DeleteThat is no failure to me! I think it's fabulous and great to be back running. nice job out there
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I was very happy to be back racing. Unfortunately I was unable to spend a little of time and to have lunch in Montalto because of the bad weather.
DeleteFELICIDADES, no estuvo mal.
ReplyDeleteSaludos
Thank you, but it could have been better.
DeleteHave a good day.
Still another finish line crossed, so that’s a win :-) Also, racing with your son is a fabulous bonus!
ReplyDeleteI agree, these are 2 good achievements.
DeleteAnother race done and dusted and it's nice to have your son share your passion for running.
ReplyDeleteYes, we share the passion for running, rugby, traveling, medieval history and other.
DeleteThat's a lovely photo of your and Paolo at the finish line! For a first race and considering all your challenges, that is a great time.
ReplyDeleteThat T-shirt looks interesting! I think I remember you don't drink any wine, right? Are you going to give the bottle away? Or keep it for guests?
Other photos will follow. I am waiting for the official ones from the organization.
DeleteThe t-shirt is also of good quality.
Yes, I don't drink wine and the bottle is a present for my running doctor.
Argh, miles and then km ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful you ran with your son!
My Dad and Brother went on holidays together back in the day.
And, well... you did great, I think!
We never came that far in Italy (Tuscany only), but it looks familiar. Miss it. Nice to see it!
Before the lockdown every year we went on holidays together to follow the rugby matches of the Rugby 6 Nations tournament.
DeleteIt looks familiar to you because Montalto is at the Tuscany border.
What a lovely setting for the race and you and your son did well!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The route ran all through the green country and the finish line was in the main square under the castle.
DeleteIt's fantastic that you were able to run a race with your son! I've run races with both of my sons and it's wonderful. That's great swag. I'd love a bottle of wine for swag!
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that you have run races with your sons: too nice!!!
DeleteI played rugby with my son (I was 40 and he was 27) and now we run together.
Here wine is usual as swag. Etruria (part of Lazio region) is well known for the olive oil and wine.
I like how you called this a glorious failure. To me that would be a very fast race -- in fact, I can't run that fast -- but the important thing is it sounds like you were (mostly) happy with the race & you got to run it with your son -- that's a gift!
ReplyDeleteI hope you recover from your cold quickly!
Thank you, I feel good now.
DeleteLooking at the race ranking, for sure, it was a failure but I had fun and I could race in person after a lot of time, so I am happy for this.
I think you are doing good!I could not do that in that heat
ReplyDeleteBtw very beautiful shoots from your town
Thank you.
DeleteDuring all the time of the race the weather was perfect: 18°C.
After the storm!!!!
Me alegra que ambos le haya ido bien en la carrera. Hermoso castillo. Te mando un beso
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteNow part of the castle is a families home.
I am just so glad you were finally able to get out and run competitively again. And I am sure being able to run with your son was a lot of fun, even if the finish was not what you had hoped for. Great job and keep training hard!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was so happy to run with him and he said that now would like to train for other races.
DeleteWe hope to do better next time and to improve our speed.
Congrats, Black Knight!
ReplyDeleteA lovely photo of you and your son at the finish line.
Thank you.
DeleteAnd next Sunday more photos of the race and the town.
a 1 minute gap but who won?? did i miss that?? and congrats on running a good race!!
ReplyDeletethat is a great picture of you with your son and another of the items from the race!!
Thank you.
DeleteMy son is faster than me but the last week he could only make one workout. I arrived before him because, during the last km, I tried to reach a runner of my same age group.
Well, I love your attitude! I'm petty sure I'll have a PW at my upcoming race... but we can't let things like that ruin the experience. You got to run a race with your son, and that's better than any PR. Just the fact that you were out there running is a victory!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will run a good race.
DeleteAnd I totally agree, no matter the finishing time we must try and every run is a victory.
I am very happy that my son runs with me.
Crossing the finish line should always be celebrated - congrats!
ReplyDeleteThank you. At last I had the possibility to race in person again and this is a "victory".
DeleteThank you
ReplyDeleteFailure is relative. You still beat everyone sitting on the couch as well as many who ran! Finishing is winning. How nice to be able to run with your son!
ReplyDeleteYes finishing is winning and I am happy that I can run again despite all the terrible injures. I hope my son will keep on running even if he is busy with the family (dog included) and the job.
DeleteI have nothing but admiration for the effort you invest in this activity, and to run alongside your son must make it extra special.
ReplyDeleteSharing the same interests with our children is priceless.
DeleteRunning is the cure for my mind and body.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your run, well done! It is great you were able to run along side of your son. It does look like a beautiful place for your race. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
Thank you. I am very happy that my son made the decision to participate in other running races.
DeleteMontalto is a beautiful town and the route was, mainly, through the green country.
you have done a great thing...
ReplyDeletecongratulation.
Thank you.
DeleteOh hey, I recognize that shirt and medal :). Somehow I lost your blog (or was it renamed?) It didn't show up in my blog list but I've updated it now so thank you for letting me know in your email that you are blogging. I don't get over to blog world much but I will try now that I know you're back.
ReplyDeleteThank you again for that lovely medal and shirt (fits great!). I showed it to Mary from our 14ers climb challenge and shew as very jealous ;). It's a great momento from a good far away friend! I don't think I'll ever get to run a race in Italy but who knows, maybe one day (are you near the town of Ravenna? I hear their medals are custom made from a local glass moasic artist and so beautiful! It's on my list!).
Anyway, I am delighted to hear you are running well again and I can empathize on the pace and time it takes to finish these things. It stings. But like you say, we are out there still and I am truly grateful to have at least that.
Merry Christmas, my dear friend!!
Glad to see you again on bogland. Yes, I renamed my blog but you have always been on my blog list.
DeleteYou are welcome, it is only a little present for a good friend like you are.
Ravenna is 225 miles far from here. However in Italy there are many interesting races in the most touristic cities and in Rome every week there is a race. Who knows, maybe one day you will run in Italy!!!!
Have a wonderful 2022!!!! Ciao.
