As I wrote on my last post, I planned to race in Vetralla but I changed my mind after I have seen the elevation profile. The problem was the downhill, where I could risk to injury my back and/or the knee, and not the uphill.
So I decided to go to Ostia, a district of Rome, near the sea, full of ancient roman ruins that now are touristic attractions.
I arrived to Ostia with Giorgio, the weather was terrible, with a wind from NW 90 km/h. See the short movie I took after the end of the race:
I didn't feel in good shape because I took a pill for allergy the night before without knowing the collateral effects. But never mind and no excuses. The path was scenic and completely flat, we lost a couple of minutes because we had to walk to pass a very very narrow passage in the city just after the start and a real lake formed by the rain in the night (km. 4).
Official stats: Finishing time: 53:34 - 350 of 551 overall. The swag was a beautiful technic t-shirt.
I totally understand what you mean bout the allergy pill :( It can definitely make you feel a little sluggish, but I guess it's a necessary evil when doing Spring races.
ReplyDeleteMy doctor said that the pill is necessary until June. It makes me feel terribly weak.
ReplyDeleteA scenic course is always a plus. The last time I ran by the ocean it was a terrible storm and you really couldn't enjoy the views at all. Which was sad. But with many I knew in the race it was actually still fun.
ReplyDeleteI hope the race wasn't over those cobblestones!
No, it was a trail with only half mile on the cobblestones.
DeleteLooks like a beautiful event. Sorry about all the setbacks!
ReplyDeleteYes a beautiful event in a beautiful place and with many free parking near the start.
DeleteBeautiful running path! I enjoyed the place, although the first km wasn't nice enough, as we ran on cobblestones through a narrow alley in the old side of Ostia. In addition, the wind was very strong while we were running the 7th km.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for your support.
A very nice morning. Thanks to you too. And new ready for new "battles".
DeleteLooks like a lovely place for a race. Too bad the weather wasn't better. You got some good pictures though! Congrats to you and Giorgio!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. When the weather is bad I can say that is not my fault if I am slow......
DeleteGood photos and place for the race. You can hear how windy it is on the video. A friend of mine does Roma Pineto parkrun quite regularly. Not sure if you've tried it.
ReplyDeleteNever tried Roma Pineto Parkrun. I prefer to not go to Rome for a race, the city is only 70 km far from here but the traffic is terrible.
