Running update: finally now the weather is perfect for training and therefore running is easier and more fun. At the end of October I will start racing on very demanding routes and therefore I have included much longer uphill sections in my training.
Yesterday, at dawn, I made my workout in Capodimonte on the shores of Lake Bolsena and then my wife and I went for lunch in the ancient hamlet of Ischia di Castro.
This was my running week:
Sunday: 15.2 km;
Tuesday: 10 km;
Thursday: 10.5 km;
Saturday: 9.7 km.

Critters:
The turtledove: while I was at home I heard loud cries in the garden. I went down and found a turtledove injured after a seagull's attack. I tried to treat and feed her but, unfortunately, she didn't survive, she had a too deep wound under her left wing.
Ugo the spider: this is Ugo the spider that one day I found near the wardrobe. He wasn't afraid of us and stayed calm in his corner spinning his web. He became an attraction for my grandchildren to whom we taught respect for animals. After a year and a half he flew to the spider heaven.
How many pets do you have? Do you love animals?
DeleteIt's a lovely time for running, isn't it - our parkrun had perfect conditions yesterday (nice for the volunteers, too!). We have two cats, I've always had cats since I was a child, just a break for my first two years of university.
ReplyDeleteI have cats at home too.
DeleteI would like to have a Parkrun in my city. The nearest is in Roma but it's to difficult to go there for traffic and parking.
No pets here but we love animals in the wild. Good luck with the training!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI know that you are an animal lover.
Poor doves got attached by flying rats. I used to have one pet cockatiel who passed on during pandemic. My heart broke forever from that point forward.
ReplyDeleteThe pets become part of the family. It's hard when they pass.
DeleteGood running there in distance, so much better with the weather cooler as you say.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are all good.
Love animals and no pets anymore, have had many over the years.
Thank you.
DeleteWeather is cooler but running under the sunshine is tough again.
I know that you love animals.
HAHA! That is so sweet that you had a sign for Ugo. I can imagine how your grandkids were fascinated by him.
ReplyDeleteHow much elevation will that race have at the end of October?
2 laps on cobblestone where you have to climb 112 meters every lap.
DeleteYou won't believe but Ugo was friendly.
Your options for beautiful spots to dine are endless! With the better weather now, you get to train at a much reasonable hour of the morning. I like the animals that live out in the wilderness!
ReplyDeleteAs I don't like sea food I prefer to eat in those little towns near my city.
DeleteIn the wilderness there are many beautiful animals.
I am a little amused by Alexandra’s comment above that she likes animals that live out in the wilderness. If we didn’t keep taking more and more of their wilderness they would be quite happy to get away from destructive humans. You do find great places to eat!
ReplyDeleteWe must have more respect for animals and the nature.
DeleteI'm very sad to see this period all those hunters in the country and the woods.
Ancient towns, little restaurant and great food!
Glad to read your heat wave is finally over and you can enjoy running in some cooler temperatures.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHowever we go out in t-shirts again.
Good running distances for you. Lovely photos and I feel bad for the Dove. The spider sounds like he was a wonderful friend. I always had a few dogs and cats through the years but none now. I find happiness seeing friendly animals when I'm out and about and take their photos. Have a great new week.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that you loved a lot your dogs and cats and they were an important part of your family.
DeleteWow, Ugo hung around a long time! You must like spiders a LOT more than I do :-)
ReplyDeleteI love all kind of animals but not the ..... mosquitoes.
DeleteThat is so fun that you had an indoor pet spider for so long. You are much braver than me. When we find scorpions in our home... they tend to have a very short future!
ReplyDeleteI think that they have a short future because they are poisonous. I have never seen a scorpion in my backyard.
DeleteEnjoy that perfect running weather! It has cooled off here too and we're on the edge of frost. Glorious for running! A turtle dove smacked into our window just yesterday and sat, stunned on the ground. Thankfully it was able to fly away. You know I adore animals!
ReplyDeleteGlad that the bird survived.
DeleteOh yes, I know that you adore animals!
So glad that the weather is helping with your training it sounds like you are doing well. I have been so busy in house and garden that I have not blogged for two months, hope fully soon I can do some catching up!!! As for pets I have had them all my life until now, dogs, cats, horses, ferrets, snakes.... We now want to spend some time travelling so we feel it is not fair, but we do feed our many garden birds.
ReplyDeleteKeep well and keep safe, keep running Diane
The reports of your travels are always very interesting. I travelled a lot for work and for tourism but now we are busy with the grandchildren (it's a pleasure).
DeleteGlad to know that you love all kind of animals.
How sad about the turtle dove! It always makes me sad when I see wildlife on the road--today I saw a deer alongside the road. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am also sad when I see the hunters.
DeleteThat´s a lot of running. Poor dove but yay to Ugo.
ReplyDeleteWe don´t have animals. It would not be good when you are gone 6 weeks from time to time.
I understand, animals need to stay near their humans and if you are often far from home you cannot take care of them.
DeleteI'm so sorry the dove didn't make it, but thank you for trying to save her/him. We do not have our own pet (other than the raccoons that live under our deck, the fox that has a den beside our yard, and the deer that hang out in our back yard), but we have a grand-dog named Pablo whom we love very much! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I saw the photos of Pablo, he is very handsome.
DeleteAnd, of course, enjoy the company of the animals in your backyard.
Uy que pena por la tortola. A mi también me gustan los anímeles. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteI was very sorry for the poor dove too.
DeleteI am glad you love animals.
Glad things are going so well for you with running. You've really made good progress. Too bad about the morning dove, wonder what happened. Awesome pictures of the narrow walkway in the village and castle. You make me want to start packing again. Though we're done traveling for this year, we do have things planned for next year.
ReplyDeletesuch as beautiful lake.... love the bird
ReplyDeleteWe love to spend our time by the lake.
Deletegreat....
Deletehave a nice day
Nice photos :)
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeletePretty views of the lake and hamlet. The Turtledove is a pretty bird, it is sad that the bird did not survive. You are doing well with your running, take care. Have a great week!
We love to go to those places to spend some hours in total relax far from the noise and the chaos of the city.
DeleteBoa tarde de domingo e bom início de semana meu querido amigo. As fotos ficaram maravilhosas, parabéns.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Have a good week.
DeleteOh dear so sorry about the dove. Nice photos
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
