Yesterday, changing my mind, I made the decision to run another cross. Why?
Because I thought: after all, it's only 7.2 km. (4.5 mg) long and there are no other interesting races in neighboring towns. I will do it as a faster workout without pushing too much.
What a mistake!!!! The route, on a very hard ground that had just been plowed, was made up of 4 laps and each lap was made up of 10 parallel lanes. A real nightmare maze! All these lanes have facilitated some rascals who jumped over the red and white tape that bounded such lanes to cut the path. I have personally seen 2 of them do it.
The field was located in the middle of the countryside, far from the city of Montalto di Castro and near a photovoltaic park that sponsored the event.
However the organization was perfect: there was no registration fee, very kind volunteers, swag and a.g. awards for everyone up to the last arrival, refreshments and secure parking.
The heat and the difficulty of the route, mainly due to a psychological factor (that up and down 10 times to complete each single lap), did not stimulate me to give my best, for this reason I decided to run the last lap at a very slow pace.
However I don’t complain, another race is on my log book, the 5th this year.
Stats:
7,2 km (4,5 mg) in 42:43 (5:56/km - 9:33/mg)
79 of 88 overall
7 of 8 a.g. (my age group, 65/69 y.o., represented 9,1% of all the participants!!!!)
Pictures are coming soon.
Have a good week ahead
I like that they give you useful prizes!
ReplyDeleteI like that kind of prizes too. The t-shirt will be a present for my son.
DeleteBuona settimana anche a te!
ReplyDeleteGrazie!!!!
DeleteThat is great you were able to get another race in. Too bad about the conditions, but at least you were able to score some fun swag! :-)
ReplyDeleteI will not change my mind anymore: no more cross/trail races.
DeletePrizes and no registration fee? Sign me up! I love that you're signing up for all these races. I have a half marathon this weekend. God help me... :p
ReplyDeleteI hope that in the near future you will come to race in Italy.
DeleteGood luck on the half!
Well done! I don’t understand people cheating like that.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteMe neither. I would never do that.
You did well. What a pity part of the track must messed with.
ReplyDeleteNo more cross races!
DeleteIt surprises me (well, not really) that people will cheat even in a "friendly" race like this. They are sorry human beings and I am glad that you finished the race at your own pace with honour and dignity. Well done! The swag is great and the satisfaction of finishing the race is no doubt enough for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the beautiful words. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that "man"(????) taking the a.g. award!!!!!
DeleteYou understand very well my goal: finishing the races and collect the pics of the event.
Sounds like a tough course indeed! Good for you for getting out there and giving it a go!
ReplyDeleteNo more!!! I am tired again and with a little pain in my knee.
DeleteI could never do this. Running kinda hurts my ankles... Maybe cause my hip is a bit uneven.
ReplyDeleteGood on you, though!
And... hot? Oh, here it´s but 21C...
I hope you can find a solution for the hip problem.
DeleteHowever this was my last trail race, no more!
This afternoon 24,5C here, people were on the beach.
It's sad that some people have to cheat to feel good about themselves. Congrats on another race completed and some nice useful swag. I like your positive attitude, it's a winning one. Enjoy the rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind comment.
DeleteI'd be ashamed and there is no reason to cheat in a local competition.
Hey, a race is a race :-) That set-up does sound very mentally challenging, so that makes the finish line extra special & quite significant!
ReplyDeleteYes, mentally challenging and dangerous. After that race I have a little pain in my knee and on the right foot.
DeleteCongrats on completing another race and with a good attitude despite the course being difficult (and on a newly plowed field). I just don't understand how people can cheat...
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteDifficult to understand also why the other runners see you!
Congrats on another race! Looks like a tough one with the heat. Boo on the cheaters!
ReplyDeleteHeat has come! Now most of the races are in evening.
DeleteIt's time to do the workouts in early morning.
That looks so difficult! Nice prizes, though! Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteDifficult but, above all, boring!
Me alegra que a pesar de ser una carrera dificil te fue bien y estuvo bien organizada. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteThank you. But this was my last cross forever. Have a good week end.
Deletegreat.... everyone will happy with award.....
ReplyDeleteGood luck for next race
Thank you. The awards are always .... welcome!
Deletecongrats...it sounds like you are doing well!! nice prizes again, but i liked the last ones better!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, the last one was better.
DeleteI love it! Another race, no entry fee, and enthusiastic volunteers? Sign me up!
ReplyDeleteOf course I will do it! In Italy a podium is waiting for you!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on doing 5 races. I feel lucky to get out just for my walks.
It sounds like a very organized race. Take care, have a happy weekend.
Thank you. Enjoy your walks. Have a good Sunday.
DeleteThat sounds like a difficult course, my goodness!! But well done. You are crushing it with your races right now.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up!
Were there any consequences for the people who jumped over the tape?
Now a little break to recover. The next race will be at the end of June.
DeleteNothing happened, that cheater didn't have any consequence and showed with pride the stolen swag to his friends!
