This is Allumiere, 11 miles far from my hometown, founded in the late 15th century to house the workers and the administrators of the near important mines of alum (Alum - Allumiere). The exploitation lasted until 1941.
In my last post I wrote about Tolfa, 2 miles far from Allumiere. There is a nice rivalry between the inhabitants of the two towns.
Also this place is quiet and relaxing. The local food is very good and people are friendly. Famous is the Allumiere donkeys breed:
Running update - This week I have run 3 times but the workouts were affected by stressful days, so I took it easy:
Tuesday: 9,7 km (mainly flat);
Thursday: 10,7 km (ondulate);
Friday: 11,8 km (ondulate).
I planned to sign up for an "in person race" on sept. 26th but I will not be able because I don't succeed in getting my "Run Card" in time. I am sad because such race was hosted in a very beautiful place: Vulci.
Warning for drivers: better to not park under a tree with nests.
HAVE A GOOD SUNDAY
So sorry it won't work out with your in-person race, Stefano!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can find a good replacement soon.
I hope that's not your car...it must have been standing there a long time, haha!
Not my car luckily. You are right, it has been parking them long time but the owner is lucky because it rained yesterday night.....
DeleteSo sorry that you can't do your race! What is a 'run card'?
ReplyDeleteI swear, the birds aim at my car even if I'm not parked under a tree. I guess because it's black...
In Italy to participate in a running race we must have a card valid for one year. To obtain it we have to get a specialist medical certificate but the sports doctor is not available until Oct. 1st.
DeleteInteresting we don't have run cards or anything like that. Is it generally a popular thing? I hope you get to do an in person race soon. Love all the photos keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteIn Italy we cannot race if we don't have a run card, valid 1 year, issued by the Italian Athletics Federation after a sports medical check.
DeleteSorry to hear about your running card. Maybe there will be another race next month that you can run in. Birds sure can be messy, I once got covered while standing under a tree taking photos. Someone told me because I didn't know. :) Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry because the place, Vulci, is very beautiful: archeological site, natural park and thermal baths: Perfect for the race and for the ..... post-race!
DeleteThat's a bummer on the run card and the race you have to miss. Again, such beautiful pics!! I saw you mention that the car (with all the bird droppings) wasn't yours, ha ha! I feel bad for the owner!
ReplyDeleteIn this period there are many "in person races" in Rome but I prefer to run through the towns around here. Rome is not far but the races are crowded and finding a parking near the start is not easy. For this reason I am sorry to have lost the possibility to race in Vulci.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place! And such cute donkeys.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the run card... can´t you take part as "inofficial runner"?
Thank you.
DeleteOnly in some big event, mainly in Rome, it is possible to take part as "no-competitive runner". In Vulci it's not allowed.
What cute donkeys! Sorry you were not able to get your run card in time for the race.
ReplyDeleteThe donkeys are very friendly. Often we see them walking through Allumiere and Tolfa with their human.
DeleteInteresting about the "run card." So there's no tie-in to Covid- this is just something you have to have every year? It seems like it might discourage some people from running. What do you think about it?
ReplyDeleteLove your photos as always! You sure live near some beautiful areas.
In this period, to sign up, we have to send by mail copy of the run card and the medical certificate. The day of the event we have to show the covid green pass too.
DeleteYou are right the Run Card discourages many runners because of the bureaucracy and the costs (we have to pay the Card + the medical checks).
For this reason it's usual to find in crowded races runners without bib who run for fun.
Allumiere is so beautiful. you are certainly surrounded by pretty places and it is nice to have a quiet town so close by. good food doesn't hurt either.
ReplyDeletetoo bad about the race...maybe it was just meant to be!!
Good food, nice typical restaurants and low prices. This is the place where I go with my former colleagues to have lunch and to remember our "adventures" on the sea.
DeleteMy goodness that car is a mess, yes certainly not good idea to park under a tree.
ReplyDeleteThe buildings are rather pleasant to see.
The Altar looks lovely and the donkeys are sweet, they are a lovable animal.
Not a good idea especially in this period when there are flocks of migrating starlings.
DeleteThose donkeys are lovable and friendly. Sometimes I give them some food by my own hands.
I'm so sorry you weren't able to get your run card in time. :(
ReplyDeleteYou are sharing so much about Italy that most of us never get to see -- thank you!
Who knows? Maybe one day you will be able to visit these towns and to sign up for a race in Italy.
DeleteAllumiere is so beautiful! Love the photos especially the cute donkeys.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your running card.
Those donkeys are very friendly, they live near a restaurant.
DeleteRunning card = bureaucracy!!!!!!
How beautiful. Thanks for sharing these pix.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someday I'll come to Italy and run a race. A girl can dream.
Hopefully you can race that race next year and find a new in-person race for this fall.
Thank you.
DeleteOften the dreams come true and I hope you will be able to race in Italy soon.
I suggest both in Rome and in a little town in the country.
It seems a very nice place
ReplyDeleteYes, it is. And many other towns around Allumiere are similar.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteAllumiere, what a beautiful place, the church is lovely. I like the cute donkeys. I am sorry you were not able to run the race. Lovely series of photos. Take care, have a happy weekend!
The church is located on the top of the highest mountain and is called the "Madonna delle Grazie"
DeleteHappy w.e. to you too.
Thank you
