Sunday I entered a race in Corchiano. Corchiano is a beautiful ancient town, in the middle of green woods, in the so-called Tuscia (Lazio Region). The perfect place for a relaxing day and a run!
The route, along the town and through the surrounding country, is very demanding and develops mainly on uphills and downhills with few short flat parts.
100 meters after the start I found myself alone in the last place but I didn't worry because I expected it: this is a too demanding route to attract many participants despite the rich swag,
Without forcing too much, I set a pace that allowed me to pass other few runners and reach the finish line in good condition without being too tired.
Only a little negative note: there was not a professional photo shoot but some kind volunteers.
Stats:
11 km in 1:04:48 (5:53/km – 9:29/ml);
98th of 107 overall;
7th of 7 in my age group (I was lucky because there were 7 awards for every a.g.
In addition to the competitive race there was a walk through the gorges for 400 elementary school students: a truly enchanted landscape!
Beautiful scenery to run in! And you win food?? That's a great idea. 😀
ReplyDeleteYes I did: wine, pasta, cheese and ... one little umbrella!
Delete7 awards for each age group? That's great. Congrats to you. And what beautiful scenery.
ReplyDeleteYes, in those little towns the swag and the awards are always good. But the best award is the possibility to run again.
DeleteThat is a great pace for such a challenging route!
ReplyDeleteI love the pasta & vino prize! I remember that you don't drink wine. Do you give it to friends or keep it for when you invite guests?
Indeed not a great pace but I don't complain. Wine is for my friends.
DeleteNice work! Looks like a gorgeous place for a run Nice to see you back out there racing
ReplyDeleteThank you. All the towns in Tuscia (Lazio Region - Viterbo Province) are beautiful with scenic landscapes.
DeleteYour race goes through some beautiful scenery. Congrats on winning some prizes and for finishing a tough course race. It's great that you are still running and doing what you love. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love to run in those ancient and little towns. The routes are tough but the scenery is wonderful.
DeleteBuona settimana anche a te, cavaliere!
ReplyDeleteGrazie! E godiamoci questa primavera nonostante la pioggia!
DeleteWow, sounds like a speedy crowd! Nice job and what a beautiful race course!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes the other runners are very fast and competitive. The first in my age group (65/69 y.o.) covered the distance (11 km) in 44:06!!!!
DeleteIt is quite wonderful that you are still able to compete in these races, and I suspect that coming in first is not your primary goal, and perhaps that is not even realistic at this stage of your life. You are a true champion in my book. All the best - David
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for the kind words. My primary goal is to have fun and spending a day in a beautiful place. Of course the podium, also in my a.g., is not a realistic event.
DeleteYou did very well then. Lovely place to run, need good lungs going u the hills and so on. Thanks for the link, it looks a gorgeous place.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Thank you. Running in such beautiful places makes you forget the effort.
DeleteWow that looks like some challenging terrain! Congrats on setting a solid pace and pushing thru. You did great!
ReplyDeleteThank you. However I took eat easy because I didn't have many chance with the other runners.
DeleteA beautiful area! Well done yourself!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes it is a natural reserve too.
DeleteWow, what a beautiful race. It sounds like an amazing experience, and yes, there were some speedy people at this race! I would say passing a few other runners and reaching the finish line in good condition is a win.
ReplyDeleteAt this point of my running life every participation at a race is a win.
Deletebeautiful places...
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing photos and text
You're welcome.
DeleteWhat a beautiful place for a race! Congrats on an AG place - how great that they award deeper than the top three places. And yes, the swag is definitely top notch.
ReplyDeleteThank you. In these little towns the swag is always good and people friendly.
DeleteMe alegra que te hay ido bien en la carrera. Me parece un lindo lugar Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, it is good you were able to pass some of the runners. the landscapes at the gorge are lovely. Thanks for visiting my blog and for the comment. Have a great new week!
ReplyDeleteThank you. For sure I'll come back to Corchiano soon.
Deletethis looks like a beautiful, but challenging place to run. maybe the uphill is the walk?? this seems like a wonderful way for you to get back into running, AND winning. pasta, wine and cheese, that's wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteNo that walk was the route for the students inside the natural reserve.
DeleteFood is better than bling, isn't it?
So, the awards went seven deep? That's unique, but definitely beneficial ;-) The scenery looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSeven in my age group and older, for the youngers 10 awards.
DeleteYes, the scenery is priceless.
Have a wonderful day
ReplyDeleteBravo, Black Knight!
