Reflections on my current running. Now I am at a point of my life where running has to be a way to stay fit and to relax my mind. Until now the goal has been reached.
Many friends of mine keep on running fast and racing regularly but for me it's different because all the injures I got. But this doesn't mean that I give up, I run and I race as I can even if I am not anymore competitive.
This month, after more than 3 years by the surgery on my shoulder, I started to swim again both to train the upper body and to restoring the movement of the right shoulder. As usual I pushed too much and now the arm hurts but this time I have learned the lesson: the swimming sessions must be 2 per week (+ 3/4 running workouts). The program includes some long walks too.
I think that my next race will be at the end of September in Vulci, an ancient Etruscan town with thermal baths and good local food. It is an easy trail 10 km long.
What I received from running.
Bad:
1. I became addicted;
2. I broke 2 times the same shoulder because of 2 stupid falls.
Good:
1. A sense of freedom;
2. Mind and body relax;
3. To stay healthy;
4. Finding new good friends (included all of you: the blogger friends) and good running mates;
5. Possibility to exploring interesting routes during the workouts;
6. Possibility to visit new towns and cities to race through. I also raced abroad: Edinburgh (3 times), Athens, Berlin and Cardiff;
7. Enjoying the post race and the swag;
8. Making the unforgettable experience to finish 3 marathons. Here are the pics of the Rome Marathon in 1991:
9. Making the experience to be member of the official Navy Running Team;
10. Wonderful memories;
11. And more and more.......
Critters:
I introduce you "Lady" the mom of my favorite cat. One day she arrived to my garden pregnant and since then she lives here.
What is your best running memory?
Hello, it is healthy to be so active with your running. I stick to walking! The kitty has found a comfy spot there. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteI see, you walk through wonderful places.
DeleteHave a good week end.
At least the good still outweigh the bad with your running! I have so many wonderful running memories it's hard to choose just one.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, it's hard to choose.
DeleteI’d definitely say the good outweighs the bad!! Also, how cool you’ve been a part of the navy running team!
ReplyDeleteYes, the good outweighs the bad, but the injury was too bad!
DeleteBeing part of the Navy Running Team was a wonderful experience: athlete life, a training staff and races everywhere.
Obviously running has given far more than it's taken -- I think that's the same for anyone who runs for a while!
ReplyDeleteFinishing any marathon is a great accomplishment.
Lady is beautiful!
There are so many good running memories. I was talking about this the other day,though, but I ran a race where you got clam chowder and lobster rolls at the end -- and there were plenty, even for back of the packers like me.
Weather-wise it was a nasty day, although I had a good race, and that was the best post race food I've ever had!
A good race and a better post-race are unforgettable memories. However we have many many memories to talk about with our friends. And what about all the picures?
DeleteIt looks like there are many more "good" things you got from running than "bad". I share those sentiments too. Your new kitty is adorable. She looks like she made herself right at home!
ReplyDeleteYes many more good things but the injury was terrible.
DeleteMy kitty made herself right at home but her son bores them all the time. Now he is the king of the garden and the owner of the house.
Running has given me so much, but my favorite memory is and will continue to be the fact that I am doing most of my marathons with my oldest son. We are both working toward completing all of the World Marathon Majors.
ReplyDeleteRunning with your son is priceless.
DeleteMy son sometimes runs with me but he doesn't train regularly.
Running has given me all of those good things too - except no.'s 8 and 9, of course - and many, many more! My life would have been so different without it.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite running memory? All the miles shared with loved ones. The one and only race I ever ran with my dad. All the hundreds of miles I ran with both my kids in the running stroller. And the handful of running dates I've had with my husband! Wonderful moments and memories.
All the miles shared with the loved ones are priceless.
DeleteI also ran with my son (not with my daughter, she played volleyball).
I never ran with my dad but he came with me when I entered the first races far from my city. Now I miss him.
Swimming, Fantastic!! Continue Working That Full Range Of Motion There Brother.
ReplyDeleteI Would Recon That You Have Another Top 10 "GOOD" Running Entries If You Really Thought About it.
Lady Sure Looks Right At Home. Thanx For Providing Her With A Safe And Comfortable Environment
Well Done,
Cheers
Thank you so much. Of course I have more than other 10 good running entries.
DeleteI didn't do nothing of special, I love to have animals around me at home.
Awwww, Lady is adorable!
ReplyDelete... and she says "Hi" to you.
DeleteSo much more good has come from running than bad and that put a smile on my face! Running has brought so much good to me as well. Calm, confidence, fitness, fun--but most of all, running has brought some really amazing people into my life. My best friends are runners.
ReplyDeleteNice post! I hope that shoulder calms down.
Yes, running has brought a lot of good things!
DeleteYesterday I had to go to the physiotherapist for the shoulder: now I feel better, thank you.
Obviously, the good far outweighs the bad ;-) Even the "bad" isn't so awful if we learn from it, right? Well done! You have a lot to be proud of!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I have learned an important lesson from the "bad", now I mind my steps while running.
DeleteI enjoyed reading about your running and seeing the photos from your races. Sorry about your shoulder but you have the right attitude - to do what you can, when you can. You have been able to visit some wonderful places because of the running. I have 5 cats and I enjoyed seeing your pretty cat. She looks very comfortable. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you. At the moment I have 4 cats, 2 at home and 2 in the garden. Have a good Sunday.
Deleteawwww, the good certainly out weighs the bad!! cute critter...i have zero memories of running. my last run was probably in high school!!
ReplyDeleteOnce runner (even if in high school).... always runner.
DeleteIt's good not to push too hard. Getting hurt really stinks. You have lots of great experiences which definitely outweigh the bad. I used to run road races years ago and really enjoyed the people and the atmosphere those races create. Now, it's walking for me. I try and walk six days a week, 5 miles a day. To make it interesting sometimes I take the bus and go to another town to walk around and take photos.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful rest of the weekend and enjoy! Your cat is beautiful and knows where to relax. :)
Glad to know that you were a competitive runner.
DeleteA very solid routine of walking. Great idea to take the bus for more interesting walks: for my walks (I alternate running and walking sessions) I often go to near cities to "change landscape".
I love that the "good" part of your list had way more things than the bad!
ReplyDeleteAnd I could add other good things at that list!
DeleteWell the positives of running definitely out weigh the negatives. Same for me! The most treasured thing I have gained from running are the friends I've made
ReplyDeleteThe same here, many friends to share with many workouts, many races and a lot of memories.
DeleteRunning will always give back so many positives, even at slower paces ;) The good memories are the best. You know it is my favorite way to see the world. That is one lucky Lady!
ReplyDeleteWow I can't believe it's already been 3 years since your shoulder surgery!
But the next time you will come to Italy we try to enter a race!
DeleteOh yes, the good memories are the best.
So glad running has given you far more positives! We all slow down, right? It's good to be able to shift your focus and still enjoy all that running has to offer!
ReplyDeleteI am with you. Also a slow and short run is a pleasure for me.
